We are fat because the media says we are. The truth is that one could not visually discern the difference between any western developed nation in terms of obesity prevalence in the population. The differences are so slight, one needs a scientific analysis of the data to prove it.

Those photos they show of fat people’s rear ends on the news could be taken anywhere.

In nature humans were generally half starved most of the time. So our bodies are designed to store any extra calories as fat. They do it very well. Too well when we have unlimited food available.

THANK YOU for saying that.

Just because it's 20, 40, however many years past whatever knowledge was handed down, it doesn't mean that biology and metabolics don't apply.

Most people today sit on their ass looking at screens all day. Most people today eat processed carb-loaded food when they should be easting lean meats and vegetables. You don't have a medical disorder, you have a sedentary disorder.

Prader-Willi syndrome people and others with a true medical condition have a legitimate reason for being overweight.

As for the rest of you, stop eating and start moving. And yes, I've been there, 50 lbs. overweight after babies. Now I do pilates and am at the right weight. And I am basically at heart a lazy person who likes to eat and sit around and read books all day but decided I don't want to be a sick feeble person when I'm old so I'm doing what I can now.

Eat and drink more high calorie dense items, move less, gain weight because you start screwing up your liver and pancreas to metabolize the huge amounts of sugar it has to deal with.

Condider the normal amount of glucose in your blood is around just under 1 tsp which would weigh about 5 grams, then consider how you put your body into overdrive drinking a soda with 10 tsps of sugar in it. If the body just took it all into the blood you’d be dead.

In nature the food supplies were usually not overgenerous with carbohydrates the way they are superabundant in the current modern diets. This superabundance of carbohydrates in the diet has sent insulin levels through the metabolic roof to the point it causes very serious levels of metabolic syndrome. Such high levels of insulin block the hormones used to signal the metabolism to release fat from storage in the adipose tissues to burn as fuel, Ketones. Consequently, no matter how much a person with metabolic syndrome diets and exercises, the metabolism burns carbohydrates, stores extra carbohydrates as fat in the adipose tissues, or burns the protein in the muscles after converting them to glucose, while locking away the fats in the adipose tissues with fanatical determination to keep them from being used as fuel. The end result is a person with a huge or obese belly even while having stick thin legs, arms, and skeleton like the starving children in Africa. This is a very real metabolic disease which no amount of dieting of calories and exercise can fix. It can be fixed only by not going into a state of metabolic syndrome that prevents fats from being burned off of the body.

Go to youtube and look at the videos from the 50’s. People were skinny then. Look at the Soul Train videos. Even the black teens were skinny. Look at pictures of our soldiers during WWII. They were very skinny.

Last week I was out in Southern California. I have never seen so many fat teens and early 20’s women. And they were wearing skin tight clothes and covered with tats. It was interesting - none of them seemed to be aware that they were grossly overweight. Granted, many of them were Mexican and that’s a genetic thing but it can’t be healthy.

Look at the “fat woman” (or man) in pictures from turn of the century freak shows. Today, you can’t swing a bag of donuts in a walmart without hitting at least 10 people who would make them look svelte. And it isn’t just this country. Something has happened in the last few decades to cause people to get a lot fatter.
