I think 0bamaDontCare covers that.

Curious as to why, although I don’t have them. We don’t get that much sun here, especially in winter.

I have been wondering, ever since these became popular, about the damage they must do long term to roofs. In states that endure high winds, they must “work” on the connections during a wind storm and eventually tear off, taking a piece of the roof with it.

I’d guess that giant expensive glass panels exposed to the elements make insurance analysts cringe.

Given the high deductables for hail damage to the roof, I’m not surprised by this move.

They are not very attractive, but having your electric bill drop from $250+ a month to $20 is quite attractive.

BINGO.
Out here I see these homes covered with roof panels and have always asked ,WTF do you do if there is a roof problem AKA a leak ??

Nothing goes on my roof except, rain and snow and that is more than enough.

Drilling holes on your roof for TV,yer nuts(IMO)

I think it’s because of fire hazard....and electrical shorting in case of fire...also high voltages and water are a bad combination for firefighters.

Unless the ROI and TCO doesn’t work.

Pretty sure if they are properly installed they are secured to structural elements so they can’t just come off and take the roof with them.

Check out other insurers. Surely one will cover you- for some price.

“there are certain geographical locations that simply do not have enough solar panels installed to make the expenditure or risk worth it for the insurance carrier. This is especially true if you are dealing with a smaller, more local home insurance company. However, even some of the bigger and more national companies will not cover solar panels in certain parts of the country.”
