The celebration of Thanksgiving may be a beloved tradition, but one group of Native Americans has revealed what the holiday really means to them in a moving video series that dispels the historical inaccuracies and stereotypes associated with their culture. As part of Cut.com's One Word video series, a group of men and women from the Native American community have shared their thoughts on the words: Thanksgiving, Christopher Columbus, reservation and redskins. And while many of the men and women agree that the 'redskins' is an 'offensive' and 'racist' term, the group shared different opinions about what it means to celebrate Thanksgiving as a Native American.

My message to indigenous tribesmen of the Americas who were living in the Stone Age just 200 years ago: You’re Welcome!

One of my great-grandmothers was one of you and I’m grateful for European civilization.

And many agree that it is NOT an 'offensive' and 'racist' term.

I’m sure the native Americans vast amount of written history and their newspaper accounts from the period verifies this whiners version of what was happening during that time.

Whereas the spoken word handed down, and embellished through the ages holds such credence, the hearsay should be allowed in courts.

We don’t celebrate thanksgiving on behalf of the Indians.

Anyone alive today who feels upset about anything in the 1600s is an A-hole. That includes papists, protestants, polocks, bosniacs, sailors, nice people, bad guys, brits, and yes wild Indians. That’s a blanket statement.

And the funny thing is, in the thousands of years before the Europeans came, Native American tribes never fought each other over land.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

In 1654 the Indians on Manhattan Island massacred my ancestor and his son...

In Feb 1690 5 brothers of another ancestor were kidnapped by the Indians from Schenectady and taken to Canada while the parents and younger children were away in Albany..Many of the villagers were massacred that night and most of the village was burnt down ...

8 Sept 1755 my 6th great grandfather was killed at the Battle of Bloody Pond, Lake George, NY ...another massacre by Indians (helped by the French)

They can all piss off. They massacred each other over territory or for power and they were finally faced with a bigger, stronger tribe. Karma sucks. Get over it nitwits.

Foolishness. As a matter of fact, the Pilgrims landed first on Cape Cod and the Indians there was definitely unfriendly. They then found a deserted Indian camp across the bay and moved. There never was more than a guarded relationship between the Indians and the local indians, who themselves were often at odds. What happened was that the Pilgrims were just a new tribe joining in the mix of other tribe sin the area and they proved to be the strongest.

They should count their blessings that the Aztecs never expanded north, make them all slaves, and their ripped out hearts into fashion accessories.

The Eagles are this Thanksgiving’s turkey.

Speaking of eagles, from The Bickersons ...

George: What’s for Thanksgiving, Blanche? Ham or turkey?
Blanche: Neither one. This year, we’re having roast eagle.
George: Roast eagle? What did you stuff it with?
Blanche: I didn’t have to stuff it. It wasn’t hollow!

So people did this a few hundred fears ago. No connection to me. No ancestor of mine did it. Am I supposed to feel guilty or what?
