Sting & Edin Karamazov (Lute) John Dowland - Come Again
Sting and Edin Karamazov via You Tube ^ | Nov 20, 2008 | kondorn

My daughter's music teacher showed this music video (see link below) to the class a couple of weeks ago. My daughter is only 10, but she really liked it, and listened to it when she got home that day and said she fell asleep to it. She shared it with me later that night. I love finding "new" things, and I'm really happy she shared it with me. And now I can share with music loving FReepers.

Merry Christmas.

Lyrics

Come again! sweet love doth now invite
Thy graces that refrain
To do me due delight,
To see, to hear, to touch, to kiss, to die,
With thee again in sweetest sympathy.

Come again! that I may cease to mourn
Through thy unkind disdain;
For now left and forlorn
I sit, I sigh, I weep, I faint, I die
In deadly pain and endless misery.

All the day the sun that lends me shine
By frowns do cause me pine
And feeds me with delay;
Her smiles, my springs that makes my joys to grow,
Her frowns the Winters of my woe.

All the night my sleeps are full of dreams,
My eyes are full of streams.
My heart takes no delight
To see the fruits and joys that some do find
And mark the storms are me assign'd.

Out alas, my faith is ever true,
Yet will she never rue
Nor yield me any grace;
Her eyes of fire, her heart of flint is made,
Whom tears nor truth may once invade.

Gentle Love, draw forth thy wounding dart,
Thou canst not pierce her heart;
For I, that do approve
By sighs and tears more hot than are thy shafts
Did tempt while she for triumph laughs.

I listen to lots of versions of Dowland’s music. This one was interesting. Sting is something of a Renaissance man. My favorite version is Kathleen Battle’s with Christopher Parkening. Thanks for posting this link!

Thank you so much for posting this. Lovely.

(Have to admit that when I saw “Sting” I almost did not go to the link, but he did a wonderful job.)

Yeah...was worried about that...that it might put some FReepers off. Glad you did and enjoyed. :)

I saw a documentary on Sting and his interest in Early Music a few years ago on TV. Although I don’t care too much for his voice, his singing was expressive. He also has an extensive library of some Early Music, IIRC.

My favorite part starts around 8:20, Sting multi-tasking. ;-)
