The U.S. Department of Agriculture is embarking on a partnership with universities across the country in hopes of infusing its ranks with more diversity as it faces civil rights complaints from Latino farmers and ranchers.

But some members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are voicing frustration, saying the agency has been dragging its feet and has yet to adequately address their concerns.

The caucus had asked for a meeting with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in October, saying members received reports from constituents indicating significant civil rights violations and discrimination by the agency.

Caucus members also pointed to a 2013 review that found noncompliance with civil rights requirements and regulations by U.S. Forest Service offices in New Mexico and Colorado. ...

Thank you for referencing that article Olog-hai. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

"The U.S. Department of Agriculture is embarking on a partnership with universities across the country in hopes of infusing its ranks with more diversity as it faces civil rights complaints from Latino farmers and ranchers."

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument

The only civil rights that the states have delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to protect are those listed in the Bill of Rights, the 13th and 14th Amendments, and the four voting rights amendments (15th, 19th, 24th and 26th). (Numbered references to constitutional rights clauses that I missed are welcome.)

And since none of the personal protections referenced above reasonably deal with the so-called rights and protections that Latino ranchers and farmers might be looking for, the USDA evidently does not know what it is doing concerning this project imo.

In fact, a previous generation of state sovererignty-respecting justices had not only clarified in general that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate INTRAstate commerce, but the Court also singled out agricultural production as a specific example of such commerce.

everybody who knows me knows i’m the WOP from NYC :)

Would have been very proud if Giuliani had won the nomination FIRST because I liked what he did here and second as a fellow descendant of Italians, it would have been nice.

But I wouldn’t vote for Cuomo with a gun to my head!!!

Hello. We are in AMERICA

“The U.S. Department of Agriculture ... hopes of infusing its ranks with more diversity”

Yeah, boy. There’ll be no increase in crop production but everyone can feel better about themselves. After all, self-esteem and affirmative action are what it’s all about.
