"Warsaw Concerto" was composed for the 1941 film Dangerous Moonlight. It is played by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Muir Mathieson.
It seems the film studio wanted a famous Rachmaninoff piece, but that was too costly--the next best thing is to pay a composer to write in the manner of Rachmaninoff (with some Grieg, too).
Louis Kentner is at the piano. Louis Kentner is not named on the disc label nor on the original matrix cards, probably because as a "serious" performer he did not wish at that time to be associated with a film. If this was the case, I assume he changed his mind after the success of the piece.
Recorded on November 19, 1941.
This is one of my all-time favorites. Thank you for posting this!

Surely Russia sucks regarding its affinity to communism, but it is nonetheless brilliant in the arts. And nothing has yet to surpass what it produced during the years of Tchaikovsky, Korsakov, Borodin.
Play them because they're fun to play, and the old timers still get a kick out of hearing them.
Thank you for the ping and post. :)
Addinsell also wrote the score for “Scrooge” with Alister Sim.
Dangerous Moonlight
A bump for the first classical piece I ever listened to. That was a very, very long time ago.
