Vice President Joe Biden launched a "moonshot" initiative Friday to hasten a cure for cancer, aiming to use his final year in office to break down barriers in the medical world he says are holding back progress on eradicating the dreaded disease.

Biden chose Penn Medicine's Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia as his venue to call attention to the institute's pioneering efforts on immunotherapy, in which a patient's own immune system is deployed against cancer cells. After touring the facility's Center for Advanced Cellular Therapeutics, Biden sat down with doctors, researchers and academics to discuss recent advances.

"You're on the cusp of some phenomenal breakthroughs," he said. "In my terms - not your medical terms - we are at an inflection point in the fight against cancer." ...

God will not give a cure for cancer to those that keep fighting against Him, Mr. VP.

maybe we can just launch Biden to the moon by sling-shot :)

seriously - I’ve seen many articles of researchers and doctors stating much cancer can be prevented or reduced when detected by our lifestyle choices - individual personal responsibility and choice of food, activity, sleep, and such. I know it would not help every single person but I wonder how many less would be effected by it if more people truly avoided some habits that are known to increase chances? I know I’m finally wising up and changing my choices, as it’s effecting more family and friends.

They say that if you live long enough you’ll eventually get cancer. Obamacare already helps prevent that from happening.

We need to define our terms more precisely. My personal opinion has been that there will not be either an IMMUNIZATION against a person’s contracting cancer; nor a CURE for cancer. Not as much for political reasons as financial ones.

Cancer care is a huge INDUSTRY, funded by tons of money. I can’t see that industry intentionally eliminating the necessity for its own existence, any more than the DemocRAT Party would knowingly off THEMselves. Ditto, the enormous Heart Disease Industry.

I would be deleriously joyful to be proven mistaken about that; by seeing both a CURE for existing cancers; and an IMMUNIZATION against new cases, coming into our lives.

Richard Nixon declared a war on cancer more than 40 years ago. Things have since gotten much worse. We get more of what the government spends money on. Poverty, war, cancer.

Just a clarification; the immunization Biden is referring to is taking immune cells from someone who already has cancer, finding those immune cells that are directed against the cancer, amplifying them thousands of times and re-infusing them. Works like a miracle is some cancers. (by the way, we always produce immune cells against our cancers, just not enough of them because the cancer “looks” like self)
He was not talking about immunizing us against all or even some cancers like a flu shot.

I worked for a neuropathologist at one of the world's finest hospitals (in Boston). One of my jobs was to assist him and his colleagues in various ways with their interest in cancer research...even to the point of once being called upon to hold a chimp's mouth closed during a surgical procedure that was being done on it.

To that worthless lawyer,Plugs Biden,I say *bullbleep*!

IT'S SCIENCE,NOT POLITICS

that's impeding a cure.

“IT’S SCIENCE,NOT POLITICS”

Exactly. The inevitable “Republicans want you to die of cancer” lines in the campaign....of course the GOP will respond by giving NIH more funding.

If cancer were politics, our entire government would be on chemotherapy.

However, one can make an argument that our present government behaves similarly to a metastatic tumor.

I’ve been dealing with the cancer industry since early July. It disgusts me. My faith in them failed early and I’m having amazing success with Gerson therapy and supplements. Screw obama, Biden, and Big Cancer.

Gee why does this announcement make me think of the movie Wag the Dog? Because I think Biden will replace Hillary as the nominee. Vote for Biden and cure cancer.

There are over 100 different kinds of cancer. And even in a particular kind of cancer there might be several different types.

For example, there are a bunch of different “breast cancer” types:

http://www.cancer.org/cancer/breastcancer/detailedguide/breast-cancer-breast-cancer-types

And treatment for each type is generally different, so it is essential that any “breast cancer” diagnosis is specific.

To make matters much harder, if a single therapy is used against a cancer, often the cancer will try to adapt and overcome the therapy, as if it were intelligent. So typically, three different new therapies are used at the same time, to overwhelm the cancer’s defense.

This being said, more and more cancer is being defeated, as long as diagnosis is made early, which is difficult for some internal cancers; but most importantly, once the patient knows they have cancer, they cannot procrastinate in any way, but must act immediately, and keep acting until it is subdued.

This being said, procrastination is actually deadlier than the majority of cancers, today.

Launching cancer moonshot, Biden says politics impeding cure

Right, so an aged, political hack who's buffonery and political gaffe's are laughable, and who's helped oversee the politicization of EVERYTHING in America under the worst President ever, is going to lead the cure for cancer while miraculously keeping politics out of it.

Oh. My. Sides.

Right. My problem is that I don’t believe the people msking the big money off of all the various ancillary sides of the cancer industry actually WANT anybody cured or immune. May I use PP and their killing babies and harvesting and marketing of their body parts; and the democRAT Party mightily striving to protect them from any attempt to curtail it as my main clue?
