What does NOT change through the different periods, and HOW does this differ from the USA..? How is it the same for virtually ALL other non-USA countries...?
No kidding.
Was a TWA flight attendant back in the late 50’s and early 60’s. We had to weigh in before every flight and no more than a three pound over our pre-determined ideal weight or we didn’t fly, shoes had to be freshly polished, clothes neat, clean and no wrinkles, no jewelry, nails polished with only one color being allowed and no hair extending beyond our shirt collar. Also had to resign when we got married which I did. Don’t think I ever saw or knew a flight attendant that was much over 25.
Most flight attendants today are, IMO, way too old, grouchy and overweight and have no business flying. I agree, they aren’t what they used to be.
She was informally told that Delta preferred hiring homos because they would have no pregnancy issues. This was in 2012.
I can only imagine how much the culture has changed since.
I just want flight attendants to be nice and professional.
The process of flying can be stressful these days and they should make it as nice for the passengers as possible. Also I dont want to hear flight attendants talking back one to another about their job or company grievances. I had a pair do that recently while they had the service cart down the aisle and they were annoying to listen too. Very unprofessional and unacceptable in front of passengers no less.
Please see my post #65.
It’s not a purse! It’s European!
I always thought it was interesting (being a hockey fan) how everyone went to the games dressed up back then, too.
It explains a lot, though.
I haven’t been to Jury Duty since the mid-nineties...when I got out of the Navy, I got called every three years on the nose.
Now, I don’t mind doing my civic duty, but I had a major issue with the fact that I had been five times and most people I knew had never got called even once, so I wrote a semi-nasty letter the the commissioner of Juries, and haven’t been back since.
But I will bet people are in there in shorty-shorts, jeans with holes in em (in more ways than one) and so on.
Great,
Trial by a jury of my peers...
Hubba hubba...okay...they all look feminine.
Interesting...I read a book called “The Aviators: Eddie Rickenbacker, Jimmy Doolittle, Charles Lindbergh, and the Epic Age of Flight” (GREAT book) and when Eddie Rickenbacker ran Eastern, and was bringing air travel to the masses, he thought flight attendants should have been men (he thought they delivered more consistent and reliable service) but was convinced by others that traveling businessmen wanted females.
No surprise there...
And probably what is under the hood (figuratively speaking) that would make a difference in service (appreciated by both male and female passengers) is that they are probably deferential to the customer and service oriented, and that probably comes from the top down.
I don’t doubt all US based airlines stress customer service, but practice and reality are two separate things.
That’s before people demanded lower fares and were treated like cattle.
I’ve gone three times, and have never been chosen for anything. I live in a Black-majority county, and my observation is that the defendants’ lawyers tend to want sweet, matronly Black ladies on juries.
I don’t mind - if I were a lawyer that would probably influence my thinking on behalf of my client, too. But they ask your “race” on the forms you have to fill out when you’re called, and if they’re never going to use me, I wonder why I’m even called. Soon I’ll be old enough to be let off the hook; but even though I haven’t been chosen for anything it’s always been a very interesting experience, so I’ll probably keep going.
As for dress, it just seems to me to be a matter of respect for the process. It’s one thing if workmen come in their work clothes - a lot of the time, you’re released after just a few hours. But the way some people present themselves is just a mess.

I didn’t see any photos before or after, nor names but I’m betting on is named Lakesha or Shawn’te!
I agree.
“Some of our team members did not display their best behavior.”
Yeh no kidding. LOL!
On one flight recently we had a female attendant( young) ,who was so overweight, she could barely maneuver down the aisle. On the same flight, we had a Hispanic, gay male who had a massive chip on his shoulder.
Back in the late 80’s we took our family and a 2 of my daughter’s friends to Hawaii. The flight attendant was so impressed that we had 5 teens with us she gave us a bottle of champagne.
Never happen now.
Breaking up a cat fight can be dangerous due to being in close proximity of flying fists. But you can cop some good “feels”. So you have to consider the reward/loss factor.
I know none of this from experience.
