VANITY - Catholic School World Civ Class Teaching About Islam

I usually do not do a vanity post on Free Republic...but my daughter came home today and let me know that in her World Civ Class at Catholic School, they are teaching about ISLAM. The history of ISLAM and Muhammed. I am beside myself. I thought I was paying good money to get away from this type of curriculum. I don't know what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Find out what the're actually teaching. If they're teaching about Islam, and it's historically correct, she really needs to know it.

If they're teaching Islam, it has no place in a non-Islamic school You have a legitimate beef.

And point out to her that Mohammed was one of the "false prophets" that Jesus warned about.

Also, depending on how old your daughter is, I’d take the opportunity to explain to the class how all lands now considered Muslim were once Christian, and full of culture and peace. That only through slaughter and rape were they stolen for their Satanic false god, and that story is playing out in Europe now.

Pray that a meaty presentation may be assigned. ;)

Sparklite is correct. How can she understand history, and today’s world situation, without knowing something about the history of Islam?

But I’m wondering if they’re also teaching the significance to history and civilization of Christianity and Judaism; or the impact on the East of Buddhism; etc.

My kid is using a conservative Christian curriculum and they slaughter the perverted murderous teachings and history of Islam every chance they get.

I concur with others on this thread. See what they are teaching and tell her that the word Islam means submission and that Muhammad personally beheaded people to make them submit. If she’s too young for this you could simply say he was a very bad man. If the school gets upset about it you can plead your case, garner allies to your cause of switch schools.

What they are teaching and how they are teaching are two different scenarios. I was taught about Islam in 1975 9th grade. It was rather perfunctory and presented no material other than it exists and here s what they believe.

There s no hiding that it exists so a bit of basic knowledge is okay.

Now, if they we re throwing a wear a burkha day or be muslim for a day then I would be concerned.

Pretty standard practice. I learned about Islam in Western Civ and Comparative Religions in Catholic School over thirty five years ago.

It is important to know ones enemies.

I studies Islam in catholic high school c.1980. It was an elective course in world religions if I recall correctly. It is not a big deal as long as the instruction is factual and not proselytizing.

There is a revisionist history of Islam that is spreading. Watch out for John Esposito’s books. He has written 45 books about Islam and teaches at Catholic Georgetown University which has received millions from the Saudis. His books are glowing with praise for Islam and his former students are becoming teachers in other schools so this will spread. Esposito is not the only one praising Islam.

Teach her about Islam from many websites such as jihadwatch, gatesofvienna.net and barenakedislam among others. There are books on gatesofvienna which present the negative impact of Islam. This is a good opportunity to learn so you can teach your daughter. You might want to have a talk with the teacher. Also if your family came from the southern European countries remember that they were victims of Muslim occupation and oppression for centuries. Even if your ancestors were not from one of these countries remember that your fellow Christians suffered for centuries at their hands and many still do.

Here is an excellent book that I have read: “Islamic Jihad: A Legacy of Forced Conversion, Imperialism, and Slavery” by M.A. Khan. It is really tough to read, you need to take your Paxil every time you read it because it is really depressing. There is 1400 years of sheer misery in this book. Maybe not good for a child but good for a parent to really get informed on the true nature of Islam and then letting the child learn what she can process at her age. You might want to recommend this to the teacher, it is available at Amazon and is on Kindle.

I taught in terms of the major civilizations: Egypt (pharaohs and beliefs on life after death); China (Taoism and Confucianism); India (Buddhism, Hinduism); Greece (philosophers, etal); Rome (philosophers, etal); Middle Ages (feudalism & Catholicism); Renaissance (Enlightenment and secularism); Protestant Revolution; World War I & II; Communism, fascism, Nazism. All was taught in light of Catholic thought.

Obviously, no one here at Free Republic is going to support a pro-Islamic curriculum, and no one is going to criticize an objective curriculum - so you posting such an obvious "no-brainer" reminiscent of "click-bait" and your refusal to respond are highly suspicious.
