Been here since 98, which is why I don't toss out the "I've been here longer so shut up" tactic that sadly has reared its head a lot lately. When I try it- some class of 97 guy kicks my arse and calls me noob. (yeah, old joke but I laugh)
Been lurking more than posting lately but wonder where we all stand on things in this race and on Free Republic.
-------------------------------------------------------
1. Betweeen Cruz, Rubio, and Trump only...please list in order of preference if they were your only choices for president.
2. Are the current flame wars on Free Republic the same we always see during a presidential primary season or worse?
3. Of these 5 issues only: Abortion, Homosexual Marriage, Illegal immigration, Muslim refugees, Obamacare... please list in order of most important to stop to least important. (Least important in no way means "not important". Even if an issue is #5 on THIS list, its may still be #5 out of 100 issues for you. Im just comparing to these other 4 for perspective.)
After answering straight up, feel free to comment and explain. Thanks!
I’ve actually been here since 1998, went through a couple screen names.
Thanks for the input. I haven’t gone over there is quite a long time.
Funny, most of us seem to agree on the issues, but we don’t spend much time analyzing which candidates “appear” to be best able to actually get something done about them.
I am solidly in the Trump camp right now. I have done too much research into Cruz, Rubio, et all, to trust them to do anything more than pay lip service, while taking the fat-cat money.
Trump is a big risk, though. Our country is in so much trouble, economically, however, that I have to take that risk. I don’t see a lawyer beholden to Goldman Sacks/Citibank, and other big donors able to withstand the pressure, and I am tired of trying to parse lawyer-speak.
Rubio, what can I say - too young, too inexperienced, and can’t manage his own finances. So, I will vote for a crude businessman, who, at least, knows how the business word works, how to negotiate a deal, and how to bounce back from really bad economic times.
No-one else running, on either side, has a clue. It may be our last chance before the USA goes belly-up.
1. Trump is tempting because he expresses my anger best. However, my rational self knows that anger dissipates and plays straight into the dems playbook of angry old while guys. Cruz has been on my radar for quiet a while now and I think he will be able to persuade rather than bully.
2. Maybe I just have halcyon vision s of past campaigns. I was a Forbes guy here. I was for W. Because he said what I was thinking and believed he could win. (He Did). The last two cycles... I did not support the losers. What a lost opportunity...
3. It's out of control and the abuse is severe. If we don't stop #1 we will never stop the rest.
III.
Cruz, Trump and a far distant Rubio.
Immigration, Abortion and OBAMACARE!
2. Two part answer. The flame wars are not as 'vicious' (for lack of a better word). This cycle the flame wars are nothing more than an exercise in childish name calling, making it hard for someone like me (not excited about any candidate) to find a thread with substance. Too many one trick pony posters unwilling to recognize their particular candidate has flaws.
3. Obamacare, Illegal immigration, muslim refugees, abortion, homosexual marriage
I put Obamacare first because it is what affects my kitchen table.. My plan is about 600 a month ($7200/ yr). Except for $25 meds and 3 office visits for $20 (30% co-pay after) I have to meet the $6000 deductible before other benefits kick in. For lack of a better word, I am pissing away the monthly premium. Insurance is supposed to help meet expenses from health issues, not preventative care.
1)...Trump,Cruz,Write in Trump
2)...Worst
3)...Illegal immigration,Moslim refugees,H1B
Cruz, Rubio, Trump
Worse
Illegal immigration, Obamacare, Muslim refugees, Homosexual Marriage, Abortion
1. Cruz,..................................................Trump, ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Rubio
2. Trump is like a bulldozer plowing through a garbage dump at the beach; media types are nothing more than a gaggle of squawking seagulls stepping all over themselves for a chance to chomp on all the garbage. Cruz is no where near the garbage dump -- he doesn't have to go there.
3. Illegal immigration, Abortion, Muslim Refugees, Homosexual Marriage, Obamacare.
FReegards!
I concur...mostly...
Who else? :)
1. Cruz, Trump, Rubio
2. Worse and it’s embarrassing - Not FR finest moments
3. Muslim Refugees, Illegal immigration, Abortion, Obamacare, Homosexual Marriage.
I remember when it didn't seem to me that a person could go straight to the forum (or else I did not know how) and there was a photo on the Free Republic homepage of the buildings at so-called Mt. Carmel (Branch Davidians, Waco TX) on fire.
That remained as the first thing seen when coming to FR, for many months if memory serves, the greater part of a year or even longer prior to eventually changing, which most likely makes me present on this forum since '97.
Cruz.
Trump if he obtains the nomination.
If Trump, I won't be holding my nose, but praying (like hell?) when casting vote for him, barring some catastrophe that would prevent me from voting ---such as DYING--- which I'm not expecting will occur in the short-term.
Sorry to disappoint my many adoring fans who may have had their hopes up there, for a quick second.
I'm not going to even give the third turd option, courtesy of mention.
Nothing personal to the OP icwhatudo, but I make it a point to never answer surveys as the questions are formatted.
Once upon a time , back in the '70's iirc, I worked for a brief time in a phone room for one of those opinion research outfits. Not political, just marketing, although they may have gotten into political opinion research at some time that I'm unaware of.
After years of being a freeper, and for more significant reason & motivations also, I also make it a point try to say what I want to say, the way I want to say it, and so again, rarely provide answers I'd rather not bother with dealing with, particularly ranking my "order of interest".
Any old-timers possibly interested what my old handle was can send me a freepmail. If whoever it is does, and it comes to mind that I could trust that person wouldn't deliberately tell others who may bear me ill-will, then I'll divulge the old moniker. It's not important, anyway...
What is more important is that Cruz appears to be ahead in this limited FR internal polling effort, which is the reverse of the tendencies I think I've been noticing in the recently ongoing, daily polling which has been conducted here at FR under the tutelage of a Trump supporter.
None of those daily polling efforts I have myself participated in, and have decided I will not be a part of them at all in the future -- unless I change my mind. I wonder how many other Cruz supporters have avoided those threads too...
But Cruz is ahead here, though in just this one internal poll -- and that on Super Bowl Sunday, so I dunno what this one may count for other than pull out some old-timers who happen to see the thread.
Anybody don't like that, anything I've said here while I refuse to play along, even with apparent political allies -- they can go buy a box of these;
and keep it around handy so they can give 'em a kiss every time they think of me.
He'd "reform" every once in a while, but then he'd backslide. :)
NO participation Trophy for YOU, kiryandil!
Thank you for the nice, truly searching survey.
What has always attracted me to FR, even as a relative noob, is a general devotion to life, marriage, and freedom, in a constitutional republic.
Unfortunately the political world now barely has a few droplets of these ideals, even in the so-called conservative brand, or in any ilk for that matter.
It seems the vitriol on FR is at a level not ever seen before by me, yet I rarely pay much attention to it. My sense is the lack of graciousness in commentary is a direct reflection of the lack of that quality in any candidate - a difficult attribute to convey to a place where it does not exist.
Primary Season Worse but time has a way of making the current always seem the worst.
Muslim Refugees
Illegal immigration
Abortion
Obamacare
Homosexual Marriage.
1. Cruz, Trump, Rubio
2. Current flame wars are LESS nasty than 2012 and 2008, with fewer of the worst kind of participants. Still room for improvement
3. Illegal immigration, Obamacare, Muslim refugees, Homosexual Marriage, Abortion. But I want to emphasize that all 5 of these are very very important to me and it’s hard to rank them among each other.
Comments: Good on you for encouraging this kind of reasoned discourse.
Insightful comment outta' U, As Usual, spot on.
Let's hope he get's further opportunities to blow at least some of the worst of the progressive's (*air quote alert*) "progress" right out of the water/to kingdom come/whatever works I don't care anymore.
