However, over the same period, the percentage saying they are "extremely or very enthusiastic" about voting dropped from 48 percent to 43 percent. And the current 43 percent who say they are enthusiastic about voting is way down from the 58 percent who expressed enthusiasm in January 2008 about voting in the upcoming presidential election.

Sure and that's why Rep voting is setting historic records....right? Additional polling data from Gallup points to the extent to which voters, particularly Republicans, are being turned off.

Nothing in this Gallup study to prove anything at all

In the first three months of 2016, the percentage of Americans saying they feel "the election process is working as it should" dropped from 37 percent to 30 percent. However, the percentage of Republicans and those "leaning" Republican saying the process is working "as it should" dropped from 46 percent to 30 percent.

Meaningless since I say the reason people (Republicans) say it is not working as it should is simply because the RNC is working against it's own candidate

” voters being turned off to the whole process”

Blah, blah, blah. And they don’t like “negative” ads, but boy do they work.

I too will vote against Hillary, but there is no doubt in my mind that the disgusting display we have seen in the last few weeks has harmed our chances.

I read between the lines of your comment and see you think Cruz has some tendencies to present himself of possessing a higher moral behaviour than he actually is living. I have concerns as to whether Cruz or Trump truly understand the concept of morality that is required to keep a Republic free. However, I do not think either of these individuals will forward the current Obama agenda.

Romney would forward the Obama agenda, he would just do a few changes to make it more palatable to himself. At some point, I am going to have to trust the fact that Trump will not forward the current Obama initiatives and hopefully that alone brings some relief. If Trump is a democrat, he is definitely a lousy democrat so he has that going for him.

I have an inkling the the next President will have his hands full with the wars that Obama has carelessly started. In fact, I have serious concerns that the people groups he has angered will lash out to affect the election... To summarize my thinking... If Trump is a democrat, he is definitely a lousy democrat so he has that going for him.

Could it be Anne Barnhardt's axiom?

The culture has degraded such that seeking and/or holding office, especially national-level office, is, in and of itself, proof that a given person is psychologically and morally unfit to hold public office.
