Cruz: The One We Waited For... and then Rejected

I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of this election season. FR has turned into a bickering board of bitter bubbleheads, it seems. Where we used to see Ted Cruz as a principled conservative... we now attack anyone who likes him as a "Cruzite" or "Cruzombie"... what happened?

First, there was the attack against him that he played dirty tricks in Iowa by relaying an MSM message that Carson was leaving the race. What would you do? If you are in a popularity contest against multiple opponents, wouldn't you make sure that the votes of an ideological brother weren't wasted on a failed effort? It's a logical reasoning... and you don't have days to debate it in committee, you have minutes and seconds before votes are tallied. That Cruz apologized at all for this news media-inspired fiasco shows him to be the bigger man.

Then what? He's following the rules and gathering delegates? I thought we wanted someone who knows how the game is played and can win elections... silly me. The Trump supporters don't seem to realize that DT is not the closer he claims to be. He is riding a wave of populism but is losing on the rules because he is disorganized and unprepared.

Saying all of this doesn't mean I am anti-Trump... I am anti-Dem whether the Dem is Hillary, Bernie, or Biden. Doesn't matter to me. If Trump is the eventual nominee, he will get my vote to stop the Dem machine's destruction of our great country.

In the primary, though, I want the most conservative in the race who has shown he knows how to win. That man is Ted Cruz. Why he is slimed on a conservative board is beyond me... and it saddens me. Maybe he isn't your guy... fine. Why does he have to be slimed? If he does manage to pull out an upset... what have you accomplished but hurting our best chance for conservative restoration in this country?

Here the thing...

what we've been finding out over the years that the GOP has been setting conservative base up lying to us...

One by one we have found almost every one of the GOP candidates or leaders was a fake or fraud......

so one by one each GOP leader fell as exposed as men with feet of clay....it was the process of elimination that got you down to Cruz as the last one that seen honest

so is in much surprise to find the Cruz was also a fake(maybe one of the worst of all) a phony a deceiver?.....

is it that much of a shock to see Cruz who claimed he was the highest of principles and Integrity turned out to be at the lowest principles and the least integrity ... it just turned out to be another in a long line of opportunist that have played on the conservative base looking for “another Reagan”?.....

It just puts Cruz in good company with the rest of the GOP leadership nothing more

open your eyes and look at his actions and see what he really is take the blinders off your eyes let the scales fall from them...

Cruz is just another opportunist playing you for a fool like the rest of the GOPe has been doing for years

“Gathering delegates” to nominate a candidate is not going to produce someone who will be necessarily viable in November.

A reasoned response. However, does this explain why he is slimed? It doesn't to me. If you don't want to vote for him, don't vote for him. Why is he the object of hate and ridicule on a conservative site?

I have never waited for Ted Cruz! The only person who waits for Ted Cruz is a candy wrapper in a travelodge.

But damning Cruz to hell with nasty words and imagery

That is a two way street.

There are plenty of Cruz supporters (even on this very thread) who are so aghast that someone could like Trump, that they climb on their high horse and pronounce those who dare not like Cruz as uneducated heretics. Their hate filled responses are riddled with inaccuracies, misspellings, and illogical/emotional thoughts as if they were directly insulted.

There are talk show hosts who one day claim #NeverTrump people are nuts, to the next day join them or actively hit the campaign with their chosen candidate spouting out crazy things like stabbing a candidate or making ridiculous religious comparisons.

Then, there is the candidates. I personally find it disconcerting that a candidate can gleefully thwart the will of the people in certain states because he can't win at the ballot box. It may be allowed, but that doesn't make it right.

FR has been taken over by a bunch of delusional progressive populists.

Is that what you call Jim Robinson?

I think the real absurdity is that NO ONE in the Republican universe has been above the call and challenge of being a “true conservative”

I have no problem with people challenging whether Cruz is a true conservative.

I think the evidence is quite good for him.

But what is clearly happening here at FR is now that Trump is beyond that challenge.

It is unacceptable to argue that Trump is not conservative.

That is absurd. Trump realized he was conservative in June. He continues to say things that are not conservative.

He has made as public target #1 the most conservative member of the US congress.

The trashing of Cruz was never necessary. People should be explaining why Trump is conservative not engaging in ad hominem attacks on Cruz.

Hillary is completely of the hook here thus far.

When you hire people like Jeff Roe the rest is pretty much gravy. All it takes is a little research to know Cruz is trying to win by any means possible, in ways that would make a Democrat blush. The leaks have been pouring out of the campaign that spells it all out.

That all said if Cruz wins the nomination I’ll vote for him but I won’t like it much.

You won’t see me engaging in these battles. Vote for whoever you want to.

Sonofagun! And I’m a Texan too. He must need your MO vote more than he needs mine.

Then again, those checks ARE pretty eye popping big.

“So far, he has been deemed eligible by all election authorities to review the case.”

If he’s the nominee, the dems will do some serious judge/court shopping.

I watched the MSM (CNN) video and they never said that Carson would make a “big announcement next week” - purely created by the Cruz campaign to support the twisting of what CNN reported. They reported that Carson would take a break; not dropping out. It’s really bad when the imbeciles at CNN have the moral high ground.

Twisting is marginally okay but fabricating the “announcement” part from whole cloth is evil.

Waiting for the plumber as I type so I feel empathy for Cruz getting hurt with all the individual drops of bad publicity.

You do not have the faintest clue what a ‘true conservative’ is. NO ‘true conservative’ would ever subvert our Constitution. EVER!!!

I didn’t reject Ted Cruz. Lying, ineligible, ‘ambitions over principles,’ Ted Cruz rejected us.

He’s definitely not the conservative he originally appeared to be.

Everything you speak of runs both ways. There are those of us that have picked Trump as our candidate that have been called every name in the book and then some, AND our candidate has ben lambasted.

It seems to be the way of the world. I’m sure I’m about to get attacked just saying this much.

I wish that I had a clear idea how to salvage the Ted Cruz that you suggest. Before he started what I consider to be compromising antics--bearing false witness against Donald Trump by cherry picking incidents and comments taken wholly out of context, and then putting the most distorted interpretation possible on them; or/and tasteless tag/team type attacks with Marco Rubio on Trump; I was neutral as between Trump & Cruz.

Sadly, the Cruz I respected as a Conservative intellectual; a sincere statesman; a man operating with a conscientious compass, who discussed the issues effectively, at a high level; has gone into hiding behind a conniving huckster, who appears to believe that the end justifies the means; moreover, that if he cannot win, he will do his best to make sure that Donald Trump does not either.

Thus, I have endorsed Trump ("Metaphor For American Conservatism". Thus I have an active thread at Free Republic, suggesting how Trump can counter the negatives that Cruz and certain business interests have concocted. (See "Trump's Road Ahead.")

All of this said, I will still work to rehabilitate Cruz's image, if and when, he ceases the dirty tactics, and goes back to discussing the real image from a perspective that puts the American heritage above his personal ambition. He can still have a major role to play--but not like this.

The pecking increased but the TRUMP TRAIN rolled on having fun.

I would hardly classify the invectives hurled from the Trump Train as "having fun." You know, referring to Cruz supporters as treasonous, homosexual, idiots, morons, a$$holes, etc.

Many of us "get it," The Donald will bring in more than enough Bernie supporters and independent voters to overwhelm Hillary. Our vote is not needed or desired.

Here we are at this point and Cruz is generally hated, on his own merit, found campaigning now on NOTHING but dirty tricks with delegates...

Really? Last I heard him speak, it was about cultural decay, immigration, and tax reform. When was the last time you actually listened to him?

... and how to thwart the people’s will of TRUMP.

The primary is still going on. There is no "people's will" until the nominee is chosen based on the RULES... that DT seems woefully unprepared for. The problem isn't Cruz... it's that DT tried to ride a populist wave rather than doing the down-low dirty work. Now that it's biting him and he isn't getting coronated like Hillary, he is crying foul play. There wouldn't be that perception if he worked the rules of the game like his opponent! Instead, he is throwing slime.

Cruz has not subverted our Constitution.

In fact, he has done more than anyone you could probably name to preserve it and bolster it.

The five victories at the Supreme Court exemplify that and his advocacy on several other major cases also underscore the substance of that point.

!!!!!!!!!!!!
