Trump 1991: Reagan's Tax Reform A 'Catastrophe,' U.S. Is Like The Soviet Union
Dailywire ^ | 4/11/16 | Hank Berrien

If you think the Trump campaign is full of amateurs, you are correct.

Donald Trump’s social media director Dan Scavino, eager to prove that his boss was an expert on tax reform, posted a link to an appearance Trump made in 1991 before the House Budget Committee:

There’s one problem: in his testimony, not only did Trump bash Ronald Reagan’s Tax Reform Act of 1986, calling it a catastrophe and saying income taxes should be raised to increase investment in real estate, but Trump actually compared the United States to the Soviet Union.

Why, you’d almost think Trump is a Democrat!

Check out the transcript, courtesy of C-Span:

"Well, first of all, I think I could say to Mr. Seidman, who I believe has done a really fantastic job while he was in government, that had the 1986 catastrophe of the tax reform act not been passed, I’m not sure that you’d know Mr. Seidman in the capacity of RTC; you’d know him in some perhaps more positive capacity, but not in the Resolution Trust. And I think in bringing that point up to Mr. Seidman before he tended to agree with me, I think. (Turns to Mr. Seidman.) Good. So this tax act was just an absolute catastrophe for the country, for the real estate industry, and I really hope that something can be done — as Congressman Thomas recently said, that something can be done to change at least parts of it, because it has taken all incentive away from investing in real estate, and real estate really means so many jobs."

Didn’t you love Reagan’s amnesty?

Didn’t you love Reagan’s amnesty?

No, that was his one mistake that has come to bite U.S.

But I thrived well under Reagonomics and so did the country.

So it’s ok for you to criticize Reagan NOW but it’s not ok that Trump criticized Reagan 25 years ago. Gotcha.

I’ll have to say, he’s certainly consistent. With his incomplete sentences, random thought train, and illogic, he was just as incoherent then as he is today.

The big difference is that Reagan was in it for America, Trump is in it only for Trump.

I disagree. If you primary source of income is real estate property and Congress up and changes the code to something newer and by doing so makes the legal activity you do m costlier, is it not okay to disagree?

Many studies were done, many changes were made to the Code since 1986, several of which dealt with the passive loss rules of rental property owners.

Do you know that the 1986 income limitation for rental passive losses is still the same today? I bet $150,000 was a lot more in income in 1986 than it is today. But you lose money today on a rental, can’t claim the loss cuz your income was too high.

Republican policy is not all sweetness and light, and in this particular case, this particular part of the Code, for this particular person, in this particular industry was harmful.

A man in entitled to his opinion, especially when the IRC change is what forced him to do some of his bankruptcies.

Are all you decisions made purely in the best interest for America, or do you engage in any decision making that benefited yourself directly?

And none of your opinions have changed in the last 35 years? 1981 - just after shag carpet and Avocado green toilets. I voted for Reagan in 1980 and I am much more conservative now. That is why I am voting for Trump (write in if he does not get the nomination). No more career politicians.

Bill Bradley’s tax reform signed by Reagan, was bad for real estate developers. The ability to shelter income through tax losses in real estate limited partnerships was severely curtailed, and it hurt people like Trump whose equity required the cheap financing pipeline to stay open. I think this was the middle of one of Trump’s many bankruptcies.

Fill in the blank:

+/- 20-25 years before becoming a prominent conservative and eventual Republican presidential candidate, ___________began his political career as a Democrat. He joined numerous political committees with a left-wing orientation, such as the American Veterans Committee. He fought against Republican-sponsored right-to-work legislation.

He planned to lead an anti-nuke demonstration and only his employer's intervention prevented it. He was elected president of a large, famous union twice--a union which had known communists among its members. He appeared ONSTAGE to endorse the Democratic presidential candidate, who subsequently won.

19 years later, as a governor he signed into law a liberalization of abortion that led to an explosion of abortions in his state.

Almost 20 years later, as president, he signed a law that legalized all illegal immigrants who had arrived in the US during the first almost 200 years of the existence of our nation.

I'll fill in the blank for you: our greatest president of the 20th century, known as Ronaldus Magnus, RONALD REAGAN.

Did Reagan donate to his potential Democrat rival’s campaign just 6 years prior to starting his own run? Did Reagan spend all his time attacking conservatives and conservatism and promoting progressives and big government with his mouth and money up until the time he decided to to seek the GOP nomination?

Where is big government addressed in the above statement? Trump was saying that the way “Big Government” structured the federal taxes, it was a disincentive for investing in real estate. Whether that is true, I have no idea, but Trump was NOT saying grow Fedzilla.

so, you condemn trump for bragging about sleeping with mens wives, too?

cause Cruz mouthing off is quite a bit different than someone actually doing it like trump did

but then again, facts and logic are not trump supporters strong points

Of course I condemn it. Got it? The point is that bringing up something Trump said 25 years has absolutely no relevance to what is going on NOW.

If I were you I would be more concerned about current events, and Ted Cruz has over and over and over again shown his true colors as a sleazy politician who will say or do anything to get a vote. Need to side with Black Lives Matter to oppose Trump? No problem! Need to condemn an innocent man to make a political point? Done deal!

All you need to know about the difference between Trump and Cruz is how they dealt with Lewandowski's legal matter. Trump stood by his man because he knew he did nothing wrong, political fall out be damned. Cruz tried to make Lewandowski out to be some criminal thug when Ray Charles could see that was a joke.

But if you insist on digging into people's past go look at what Trump's peers from military school have to say about him. Compare that to what Cruz's college classmates have to say about him. Night and Day.

if trump 25 years ago means nothing, despite how he has never shown a change in behavior means anything, but Cruz’s video of him as a teenager shows ZERO like his known adulthood means all the world...

you keep proving my point, trump has ALWAYS slept around, his first marriage was open maybe? his second she bragged about their sex life live on tv, he marries a woman who poses for lesbian soft porn...
it points to pattern, yet because Cruz acted like a teenager when he was a teenager you condemn him as an adult but excuse trump for ALWAYS acting like this????

Biblical level of delusion...
