It’s easier and cheaper for Microsoft to only have to support one operating system.

At this point of time and for my usage (surfing the net, e-mailing) I wouldn’t pay even $10 to “upgrade” to a new operating system, and I’m not alone. So yes, they need to give it away.

I’m not taking it because I don’t feel like learning something new and to have hassles doing something I can easily do now.

Wow. The point went totally over your head, didn’t it? Some people want to continue using software they paid for that runs perfectly fine on their currently supported win7 box. Why do you have a problem with that? Do you work for microsoft?

Then the original author of the program needs to update it or the user needs to find an alternative.

I had similar losses of both programs and hardware going from Win98 to XP and again from XP to Win7.

As for old programs, in some instances the programmer has retired or died. For some old programs, especially small utilities, there are no modern equivalents. And the supposed compatibility mode in Win7 and later does not make some of those old programs work.



The same kind of problems happen with the rapid release insanity of Firefox. Many add-on/extension programmers quit updating their products because it became too much of a hassle. For many of those add-ons there are no comparable equivalents.

I accepted the free upgrade on my Dell laptop. Went smooth until it got to installing drivers. I never could get the wireless to work on a consistent basis. One day work fine next in and out all the time.

I do not have any operational issues and all the programs I have work fine but I did have to buy a USP wireless adapter.

This computer is used to check email and facebook so I am not worried about Microsoft and indeed I am using it to learn about Microshaft security.

It actually loads faster than Win 7 and uses less resources. Memory usage and cpu load has both been reduced.

For a non critical machine Win 10 has not been that bad.

No problem. I’m just stating that they will eventually have to update. They have time to find an alternative.

My Commodore computer had some great programs when I was a kid. But I eventually found better alternatives.

Switching to Apple or Linux is also an alternative, but you will still be learning something new. And they will also be updated in the future.

On hubby's laptop, JUST WITHIN THE HOUR, he was working away, and a Windows 10 update screen appeared, counting down from 15 seconds till install begins. The ‘cancel’ button in the window would not work (a fake?), but we rescued it by powering off, turning of the wireless router, and opening it again. It opened with a big red ‘caution’ screen, windows 10 install failed, click try again or your system may not work correctly, blah blah. I went to look at the installed updates and deleted the last few ‘windows system updates’. That required restarting and voila! no update activity - plus the little windows10 update icon in the systray was gone too. Dang sneaky if you ask me. 15 second countdown (to save your work) and automatic install? It was happening though.

I foolishly did the download several months ago. The new W-10 was a total crapload and unusable. So I went through the steps and restored my ‘puter to its condition the day before the download.

Now, every time I boot up the computer MS nags me to download it again. If God wants me to have W-10 He will give me a NEW ‘puter with it already installed.

I clicked ‘Decline’ on the Terms & Conditions page, and the PC uninstalled Windows 10 and restored Windows 7 Professional to its original state that I require for my business.

And how much of your time did they waste?

Thanks for the never10 link. I just found out W10 somehow re-activated itself after I disabled it long ago. Just took care of that with the link.

My home laptop with windows 10 (upgraded from crappier 8.1) locked itself up for most of the afternoon yesterday installing a windows 10 “update”.

Ive said it before. The Windows 10 forced upgrade is basically date rape on your computer.

Most of my hardware is no longer usable. I have printers, scanners and such that do not work on new machines. It should not be that big of a programing effort if the companies really wanted you to use old stuff. Follow the money, there is only one reason for windows 10, corporate profits along the road.
