I want an alpaca. Can I copy that letter? ;) The spouse killed a chicken snake 2 days ago, caught in the act of eating eggs. I’m so glad it’s gone. I worried walking around out there in the dark.
I hope you prevail.
Oh yuck! Glad it’s gone!
I’ve been reading the ordinances and this type of thing is completely un-contemplated in what is written. My fear is that we will be heard by people going “by the book” and not those looking to be merciful, given the unusual circumstances.
Oh great - thanks for keeping me informed!
I thought your area was pretty rural so it just seems odd this would be so objectionable.
I’m on the edge of a neighborhood that is zoned “village residential,” but I don’t agree with that for my lot. Village residential is for older “coal patch” villages with small lots and densely packed. Directly behind me is property that is zoned agriculture.
Mine seems better suited as “rural residential,” which would allow for chickens. If the lot is at least an acre and you can keep them 100 ft from any property line. I’m just under an acre, but the L shaped lot makes it impossible to be 100 ft from any line.
So my argument has to be to bend the rules a little bit and that my lot is sufficient for a little animal husbandry without destroying the character of the neighborhood, depriving anyone of the enjoyment of their own property or causing harm to the public welfare.
Just have to hope for reasonable decision makers.
I don’t have high hopes, but if you can pray for chickens, please do so!
