Hes a welder and at the very least he couldnt weld up a steel box? Yup. Or he could have bought a gun safe, for between $50 to $100, and bolted it to the closet floor. You put your hand on top, and tap out the combination, easily done without the gal seeing what combo you typed with your fingers. That's what I like about the gun safes, you can do it in the dark without looking. What the heck was he thinking, keeping a wad of $100 bills in a dresser drawer?
