AMITE, La. - Decked out in full cap and gown, complete with a valedictorian cord, Andrew Jones showed up to his graduation from Amite High School ready to experience his hard work paying off.

He didn't get the chance because of what he was wearing on his face.

"Eventually they took my gown," he recalled, "They told me they had to take my gown from me."

Bottom line:

Rules are rules...Laws are laws...
Just because you do not agree with them or think them silly, does not give you the right or privilege to break them...

You DO have the right to work to get them changed...

He was told three times to shave it off...He abused the rule...No matter how trivial the rule may seem, it is still the rule...

It’s exactly like a person thinking a 35 MPH speed limit is too slow, so they go 45 and get a ticket...

If you don’t like the rule, work to change it....

As far as the poster who said he would hire this guy because he thought for himself...That’s all well and good as long as he adheres to company policy...

He is told by his supervisor to accomplish a task...He thinks this task is silly and a waste of time, so he does something else...He did not know any of the deeper reasons for this particular task and ends up costing money...That’s what sometimes “thinking for himself” can get you....

“Bearded!
Marked with a beatnik’s shame.
What do you do when you’re bearded,
Will you fight for your name?”

Wherever he goes for the rest of his life,
He must prooooooooooove
He can shave!”

Let them hire the ones who blindly follow the rules of a failed institution.

I’ll hire the valedictorian who can think for himself and can recognize a stupid rule when he sees one.

Yes, I think we need more out of box thinkers and folks to really think critically. Way too many conformists...just what the government schools strive for.

Barely speaks English, has baby and a baby momma and he's the smartest one in his class?

Sounds to me like he made valedictorian with all B's and C's.
