I have no idea but it looks like they are praying and they are in the water and it could be a baptisim...liberal heads are exploding. It kinda looks like a flame like Holy Spirit...so perhaps some sort of religious insignia...more liberal heads exploding.

The man on the far left looks like my old man, infact, a spittin’ image of him, but he was in the SeaBees, not in the Airborne.

Yup the 173rd, the are stationed mostly in Italy if I remember.
Their Viet Nam base was An Kay If I remember right.
