SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Beth Howland, the actress best known for her role as a ditzy waitress on the 1970s and ‘80s CBS sitcom “Alice,” has died. She was 74.
Her husband, actor Charles Kimbrough, told The Associated Press that Howland died Dec. 31 of lung cancer in Santa Monica, California. He said there had been no announcement, funeral or memorial service because that’s how she wanted it.
“That was her choice,” he said.

She died 5 months ago. She wanted no announcement, and none was made until now. Nice to know someone from Hollywood doesn’t demand attention at the very end. RIP

That one was Flo. Vera was the sweet one, and a brunette.
Oh that’s right. It’s been awhile since I thought of that show.

“Kiss my Grits” was Flo’s (played by Polly Holliday)expression. Beth was probably one of those actors that if you were to have met them personally and have never seen them play the character that they were well known or famous for, you probably would not have guessed that they actually did play a character like that.
Kind of like Larry Linville (Frank Burns on M*A*S*H) or Polly Holliday or Richard Sanders (Les Nessman on WKRP) or Bob Denver (Gilligan) or Edward G Robinson (played tough guys in his movies, but in real life was a well read, thoughtful man who had one of the best eyes for art in Hollywood in his day).
I watch very little current TV. I prefer old shows from the past. The old shows seems to have better plots, more in depth writing, much less pushing liberal causes in the programming, no bad language or suggestive situations or comments. Just my opinion.
I always confused Vic Tayback with Vic Morrow, but I guess one’s a head of the other.
It seems like all the actors from the shows we grew up on are gone. Alan Young left us last week. The network shows on now are just pathetic.

I remember fondly the days of weekday mornings on CBS (circa 1981-82) in which “Alice” and “One Day at a Time” were on reruns. Then, of course, “The Price is Right” was on at 11:00. Grand fun when you were home sick or for the Xmas or March Break or summer holidays, lol.
