Of course, there are always exceptions.

Wow. I generally like Christian “rock”, but that is really not very good.

But one thing I found about Christian pop music is that the content was very lightweight, and often merely alluded to God in almost obscure ways.

just like the pap you’d hear in any suburban Catholic church across the fruited plain...

the spirit of Vatican II...you just gotta love it...

I think “South Park” did an episode on that once...

I play a game when driving through certain demographic areas and listening to the radio:

Rock or Jesus.

Sometimes, you can’t tell until you’re halfway through, humming the tune.

Faith + One.

Fantastic episode.

“Son, it sounds like you’re REALLY in love with Jesus.”

He commits a glaring sin in his interview. He bears false witness to King David and his close friend, Johnathan. He insinuates that they were homo lovers even the Bible makes no mentions of this.

If he was only attracted to men, how did he have children? Did he have gay porn on the headboard?

Another exception (quality wise) is Third Day. Check them out.

I’ve been silent for a long time, but I think I’ve finally had it with the replies I see at this site.

I’ve been around this site since about 2003, and have seen a rapid deterioration in the attitudes of the individuals contributing over the last year. I used to look at this community as a place where I could find God-centered, conservative thought, but something bad has slowly replaced it.

Seriously, look at the first 40 or so comments. Not one contributor offering up a prayer for this man and his family. Shameful. When I see sin in the life of a brother or sister, the first thing I feel obligated to do is petition the Lord for protection and revelation that will lead that person back to the right path.

Where is you mercy, love and kindness for this individual?

At this point I’m praying for a change of heart in this man, and strength to overcome the weakness that he finds within the constraints of his own flesh. The truth is, we all have battles. I struggled for a long time with alcohol addiction, and I still get thirsty. Do I give in to that temptation? No. I press harder into God to keep me on the right path, and by power of the Holy Spirit and His mercy I forge ahead.

Many of us are willing to look past our own sin to what we see as a greater sin, while wholly ignoring that our denial of our own shortcomings and the finger pointing district us from the purpose of seeing Him. We are charged, as Christians to reflect the life and actions of Jesus. What I see here is quite the opposite, and has been for quite a while.

There’s a mirror right over there. Might be beneficial for many of the commenters on this site to go take a look. I did exactly that three years ago and saw a lot of ugly. It’s only through God’s grace and a constant reaffirming of my relationship with Jesus though daily reflection, prayer, and digging into the Word that I live free.

So, prayers up for this guy, his family, his friends, his band, and the ministry that God has for him as a result of his own shortcomings.

I don’t know about that. Casting Crowns “Praise you in this storm” has lent me perspective in some very difficult situations. I can’t be the only one listening to contemporary Christian music with tears streaming down my face. I find a lot of good doctrine and encouragement in some of it. Each to their own

How about you pray for FReepers then instead of blasting everyone here and this site?

It’s one thing to say that I gave into temptation and fell into sin.

But it’s a whole other thing to say that “Well what I’m doing really isn’t a sin.”

Wrong. He’s not “gay”. He’s homosexual.

He’s going to come out with an album of Liberace and Elton John tunes.

There is a ton of excellent contemporary christian music out there, and on the whole the message is right on.

Some examples: For King and Country, Toby Mac, Thousand Foot Krutch, Lauren Daigle, Andy Mineo, Jesus Culture (favorite), Crowder, and on, and on.

The message is consistent across all of these artists, but the styles falls into several genres, and in some cases the same artist can span several genres of music. I play what I’m in the mood for.

I will admit, though, that some contemporary christian bands only tangentially allude to their faith in the lyrics they sing. Some examples would be Skillet, Red, and Family Force 5. Still, with those groups that don’t have explicitly christian overtones in their lyrics, it presents an opportunity within certain groups to share their faith where it might never reach. It’s living in the world, but not being of it.

Sometimes as a christian, you as an individual, are the closest thing the person you are talking to will get to ever attending church or hearing the Word. Some artists, because of where God has put them, get to live that opportunity on a daily basis. They are the lucky ones.
