uninstall KB3035583

I did just that the other day. It’s gone.
The nagware popping up 20x a day was too much.

Or you can load Mints desktop, Cinnamon 3.0 desktop, on Ubuntu 16.04 and it’s not beta. I’ve been using it for over a month. I installed Ubuntu 16.04 and then installed the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop environment on it. Here is a link showing how to do it:

“My workstation though... Windows 10, damnit! “

In our workplace, we have 3 pc’s that are W10 but we made sure we keep it at 3 and the rest are at 8. My laptops are at W7 still and no way am I even upgrading to 8.

Unless Bill Gates provides me every Victoria’s Secret models in bikinis to serve my breakfast for 30 straight days, then maybe...

Interesting. I liked Ubuntu years ago until they went to that awful Unity desktop. I’ll probably just stay with Mint though. It’s been flawless on my ancient laptop and does everything I need a pc to do.

The law says they MUST abide by your request.

What law?
International?
Federal?
State?
Local?

Windows 10 and PC market weakness... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to raybbr for the ping!!

You have to block over a dozen ports ON YOUR ROUTER to prevent most data from going to Microsoft from Windows 10 snooping.

Got a list?

I mistakenly said “ports” instead of IP addresses/DNS sites. The Hosts file can’t be used to block them, so you need to do it from your physical router.

Also Windows 10 is spyware. That certainly does not help!

I used Mint 17.3 for about a year and I really liked it. When Ubuntu 16.04 came out I wanted to try it, but I also disliked the “Unity” desktop. When I saw that I could load the Mint Cinnamon 3.0 desktop on Ubuntu, I went for it. It’s really fast, boots in 15 seconds on my Dell i5 ssd hard disk laptop.

I’ve come to like Ubuntu more than Mint because Ubuntu has a larger support team and gets more frequent and earlier updates and security updates than does Mint.

Mint 18 is coming out soon, based on Ubuntu 16.04, but I am going to stay with the real Ubuntu.

the reason for the decline is that the market has been saturated with computers that perform beter then most people need. my computers are 5 and 6 tears old I see no reason to replace them because all I use them for is browsing on the internet, streaming video and word processing. I see no need to pay 5-7 hundred dollars for a computer that performs better because we have finally hit the point where it does not mater anymore. unless you need an incredible graphics card for on line gaming you just don’t need the improvement in performance.

uninstall KB3035583 - I did just that the other day. It’s gone.

KB3035583 will just reinstall unless you specifically "hide" the update in Windows Update. Even if you do that, it might not be good enough. A friend's Win7 computer on which I hid KB3035583 managed to upgrade itself to 10, which she emphatically did not want. She may have clicked the wrong button on a Microsoft prompt by mistake, but she tried NOT to upgrade, and was upgraded anyway.

So, I have given up on uninstalling and hiding updates to stop Windows 10.

If you don't want 10, either install Steve Gibson's "Never 10"...

https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

...or install Josh Mayfield's GWX Control Panel

http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

Steve Gibson is a very well known, well respected old pro. I have been using his programs for decades without a single problem.

Here's an article about the two programs:

Watch or listen to Steve Gibson’s “Security Now” podcasts (old or new) on the TWIT TV website.

started their computers in the morning to find "Welcome to Windows 10" on their screen.
Yep both my wife and me. I hate 10.

I accidentally left my Win7 laptop in "sleep" mode overnight and the next morning when I activated it, it was in a state of constant hard drive activity, my worst fears were realized.

Now I am more determined than ever to join the inevitable class action lawsuit against Microsoft.

My Win 8.0 desktop, my newest Windows machine, which I had willingly decided to upgrade to 8.1, then to Win10, was completely trashed last February upon completion of the win10 upgrade install.

All my most-used programs were uninstalled, disappeared : Adobe Acrobat, AutoCad, Photo editing software, MS Office 360, and a few other utilities I cant even recall offhand.
But worst of all when the "upgrade" ended, I could not access any of my external USB Drives, and attempting to resolve the problems the desktop "died" and wouldn't even boot.

Eventually I was able to coax it into booting, and am planning to transfer any important remaining data from the hard drive and get help rebuilding the i5 Desktop.

in the meantime, I rely on my older desktop to manage all my household accounts, pay bills and save records. So upgrading it to Win 10 is permanently out of the question.

The summary of my Windows 10 experience?

NEVER!!

After 25 years of Windows (I've hated Apple,) it is time to reconsider switching to Apple, if the software I need is available for it.
