Three new players will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this upcoming year. On Monday, the NHL and an 18-member selection committee announced Eric Lindros, Rogie Vachon and Sergei Makarov will make up the Class of 2016, along with Pat Quinn as a builder.
Lindros is the biggest name of the group and is regarded by many as a name that should have been in the Hall long ago. The former Philadelphia Flyer had 865 points in 760 games, but his career was cut short by injuries and a concussion sustained by a hit from Scott Stevens of the Devils during the 2000 Eastern Conference Final. Despite a shortened hockey career, Lindros was a revolutionary player on the ice during his time in the NHL and his addition to the Hall this year was a must.
Vachon's NHL goaltending career spanned 17 years, most famously with the Canadiens and the Kings. Between 1966 and 1982, Vachon collected 355 wins and held an overall goals against average of 2.99. The former Montreal and Los Angeles netminder won three Stanley Cups with the Canadiens and was a Vezina Trophy winner in 1968.
Makarov played 13 of his 21 years in the NHL in the Soviet league. Starting in 1976 and ending in 1997, Makarov 943 games in his hockey career -- 424 of those coming in the NHL. Over the course of his career, Makarov posted 1,094 points and was a star at the international stage, playing with CSKA Moscow. Makarov famously scored the second goal of the "Miracle on Ice" game, which the United States eventually won in 1980.
Quinn is being brought into the Hall of Fame as a "builder" for his contributions as a head coach and executive. Over the course of his coaching and executive career, Quinn oversaw the Flyers, Kings, Canucks, Maple Leafs and Oilers. Quinn reached the Stanley Cup Final twice in his career and coached Team Canada internationally to gold in various championships.
Those are good entries. Congrats to the class of 2016.

Lindros might have won two Cups had he not been such a whiner and prima-donna.
I mostly remember Rogie when he was finishing up his career with the Bruins. Ex-goalie Gerry Cheevers had just retired and took over as coach,and they traded their other goalie,Gilles Gilbert, to Detroit to get Vachon.
Rogatien Vachon, the bane of the Bruins’ existence in all those heartbreaking games with Les Habitants. Loved to hear the announcers say his full name.
The NHL really made a big mistake not putting Lindros on the Rangers and giving him to the Flyers.
Lindros might have won two Cups if Philly had some reliable goaltending back in the 1990s.
Lindros LeClair and Renberg....legion of doom. Those were the days. What a shame they never had a good enough defense or goalie. The damned Devil’s and Panthers boring trap defense killed the flyers.

Glad to see Rogie finally make it into the HOF. Me and Mrs. Fidelis’ first date was at a Kings game and I got Rogie’s autograph for her on the back of a program. Congrats to Pat Quinn, too, who was King’s head coach for a time. Along with Eric Lindros, they’re in good company.
