The forum is self policed to a large extent. I doubt that the admins have time to examine all the posts.
Two weeks ago there was a very thoughtful essay posted on Muslim immigration taking a long-term historical view. Someone posted a racially charged statement directed at American blacks (should that be capitalized?) which had no bearing on the thread.
I was dismayed, because I was intending to forward the thread to my grown children and my pastor. However, the racial post made FR look like a place where bigots hang out.
I complained to the admin and Jim Robinson pointing out that that particular post did nothing to advance the discussion and clearly put FR in a bad light.
The post was deleted in about 15 minutes and I received a “Thanks” in the mail from Jim.
My personal view is that FR threads should be kept clean enough so that if you were a high school teacher you would be able to direct your class to threads with a clear conscience. I realize that the level of emotion runs so high for many topics that people slam down stuff that keeps this from being possible.
I would also call a halt to some of the childish name-calling. Both because it makes us look like a bunch of junior high students AND it ruins some content for later research; e.g., if you want to find out where Hillary is mentioned you have to include search terms like “Hitlery” and other such nonsense.
That being said, I always liked the moniker “Sheets” and “Swimmer” for our former friends in the Senate since it actually was a reminder of why they should be demeaned.
They can track you down through the internet. This IS on your permanent record.
Had it happen to me as well, no rhyme or reason why, One day, I could no longer post without review.
The music videos are encrypted instructions for the vast right wing conspiracy. You’d better go back and watch about 40 of them to get caught up. ;)
That is why there is a report abuse button. I’ve seen that too, great threads on the reverse racism going on, thoughtful and reasoned, and some old coot on his porch will throw in a racist post against blacks. This destroys the worth of the thread so hitting abuse on such posts helps FR.

There is no one forcing you to view those rock posts. You, just might be more inclined to view the inane pics and gifs included in the replies.....a very LARGE image, I might add.
Do you feel the same about the astronomy posts? the Cooking posts? The prepper posts? And think about the time when there is no general election, nothing much going on to bitch about, crow about, talk about. What would you suggest freepers do? Sit at their screen twirling their fingers. Personally, I enjoy this site due to the fact is is so versatile and politics is not the only topic of interest found here. Granted the pics/gifs at times are a bit overwhelming but that is just me and my fault. I accept the intrusion and say nothing.

All message boards in the history of message boards have been plagued by off-topic posts.
A thread started with a link to a classic rock video, not coupled with any current politically newsworthy or socially newsworth context is outside the bounds of the purpose and function of FR.
They are like litter scattered in the ditch along the highway. We can ignore it, but we can also correctly complain about it and those who put it there.
Jim can do whatever he likes with FR, but the straight Youtbe rock video links are out of bounds of FR as it has historically stood and practiced.
