Ted Cruz contemplates the unthinkable
Politico ^ | 7/18/2016 | Glenn Thrush

Still smarting from his loss in the primary, Cruz says he’ll use his convention speech to outline his own vision of the Republican Party’s future. But will he endorse?

One of these days, and maybe soon, Ted Cruz just might have to endorse Donald Trump.

But he’ll never concede Trump could have beaten him in a fair fight — and he’ll never accept that Trump’s me-first philosophy represents a sustainable future for the GOP. Above all, Cruz wants to use the big stage in Cleveland to present a non-Trump alternative vision for his party’s future, one rooted in constitutional conservative principles and competent campaign management modeled, oddly enough, on Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 White House runs.

“In this election I am where a great many voters are, which is that I am listening and watching and coming to a decision,” Cruz, the highest-profile Trump holdout heading into this week’s convention, told me when I asked him if he intended to throw his support behind the former reality TV star imminently.

Should Trump lose I don’t think that makes Cruz a shoe in for 2020.

He could still face Walker, Rubio and others to emerge.

Considering that, he would be better politically to endorse Trump.

Cruz was my first choice. If he fails to full throatedly endorse Trump I will not back him in the future for President.

If I think he is doing ANYTHING which increases Hillary's chance of winning he is done forever.

Cut Cruz from the convention and give him a one way ticket to Canada. Can’t stand that guy.

grania said: "Cruz is delusional. An honest fight? Cruz would not have gotten anywhere if he hadn't drafted off Trump early on to gain traction.

To think that early on I contributed a few dollars to the Cruz."

I too regret the money I sent Cruz. His behavior since losing has been quite childish and counter-productive.

But, I sidagree that his running was a detraction from Trump. Cruz and Trump were "outsiders" and between them they provided just what was needed to prevent low-energy Jeb, who was the choice of the MSM, from gaining any traction.

If Cruz had played a little nicer, he would be the Republican Vice-presidential candidate with a great chance in 2020 or 2024. This was his opportunity and he frittered it away.

The ineligibility factor was bigger than most understand.

His amnesty and TTP positions made Cruz anathema to me.

As the primary dragged on, Cruz started in on Trump as a fraud following the GOPe lead and Mitt’s ridiculous attempt to remain relevant.

Soured even more on the man.

I was wondering earlier how much control the Trump campaign has over the audio system at the convention. I presume it’s close to complete. If Cruz is seen as still working to undermine Trump, he will become a pariah and perhaps even booed offstage.

I don’t like Cruz, I don’t trust Cruz. As arrogant and superior as he comes across, he’s still really smart. I’m guessing he’ll endorse Trump and throw his delegates behind him. If he doesn’t, he deserves what’s coming to him.

Lyin’ Ted’s actions vis-a-vis his votes established him as just another Establishment RINO.

Lyin’ Ted’s words were meaningless propaganda.

i dont think Trump is a fraud

I do think his natural tendencies are far more ‘liberal’ than I personally think are wise for USA right now, after 8 years of Obama’s Demolition Derby against our country and our jobs

but anyway, he is the nominee and he sure does know how to campaign well, use the media whether they like it or not, ha!

i think at least he won’t sell our or roll over and die like McShAME and Gov. Romney

and we DO have to corruptoidess sold-out-to-the-enemy KEEP HILLIARY out of our WH!!!!!!!

See, it's crap like this that is simple proof of the Left-wing bias of today's media/press. Imagine Glenn Thrush saying back in 2008:

...Hillary Clinton, the highest-profile Obama holdout heading into this week’s convention, told me when I asked her if she intended to throw her support behind the former Community Organizer and well-known pot-head imminently.

you may be correct about Sen. Cruz

it looks possible and if so, its a crying shame as he was making some pretty good noises about positions and plans
and policies or such

just another fraud? ok. well.... if so, then maybe Texans will toss him out of the senate

Agreed, teddy has it all mixed up but then again, that’s nothing new.

It would be lovely if he somehow just couldn’t make it to do his blabbering speech. That darn stomach flu comes on soooo fast.

Cruz supports TPP, North American Union, CFR, open borders, unlimited immigration---then why be in the party that OPPOSES all those things??

The party leaders Ryan & McConnell oppose these things now?

Same here. Two things: I cannot stand anyone who thinks they are entitled which is where he is heading and Cruz’s not quite-USA-citizenship was/is going to cause trouble with the press and Dems that we do not need. He just has to be satisfied with a different office.

I like Trump and I like his Pence choice.

Honestly, I just do not see a path forward for Cruz regardless of what he does from this point.

His only shot would be to not only endorse, but to campaign tirelessly for Trump for now until the general. If Trump will have him.

Personally

I don’t trust him

Second

He is only in it for himself. We need less people like that in government. I know we had two or three decades of a “free for all” in government so we might have forgot what a good government looks like. Cruz should no longer be part of it. Maybe his wife can get him a gig a Goldman Sachs? I hear they pay top dollar for speeches

If he isn’t willing to endorse, he needs to shut up and go away. And I voted for Cruz in the primary.

Honestly, if he would have hung up his campaign after super Tuesday, he probably would have even been a VP contender. But now, the best thing Cruz can do is just go away quietly

Ted is acting like a petulant child who can't believe he didn't win, because his daddy told him he was the anointed one, and it's his destiny.

That right there is what soured me on Ted Cruz more than anything else. His father and his "prophesy" is creepy as all get-out.
