Edit: western civ requirements in college.
WILLIAM FEDERER’S American Minute should be mandatory for every student. http://americanminute.com/
His presentations are excellent too.
This concept was taught in grade school.
Columbus wanted a western route to avoid the entire hassle of the eastern route denizens.
[This concept was taught in grade school.]
That must have been before Social Studies was introduced in the 50s. WILLIAM FEDERER should be made History czar if the Dept. of Education isn’t scrapped when TRUMP wins.
This is the garbage today’s students learn about Columbus.
Under the watch of Superintendent Denise Juneau, students in Montana schools are being taught that Christopher Columbus was an invader, thief, and murderer who sailed the world, not to prove that it was round or to share the good news of Jesus (as Columbus wrote), but to secure the tremendous profits that were to be made by reaching the Indies.

Give credit where credit is not due...for craven fake egalitarianism.
Right from pre-Alexandrians times, Europeans looked for ways to get to India - a land of riches. The Chinese also looked to India as "the Holy land" - the font of Buddhism
Rome traded heavily with India until the coming of Islam and then the land routes were cut off
Vasco Da Gama chose the southern route, around the Cape of Good Hope and the Portuguese controlled that - from Sao Tome to Mozambique to Cochin to Sri Lanka to Indonesia to Macau
Colombus chose to go west -- and until the end of his life believed he had landed on the shores of India
In a very real way, the Old World ended when Columbus made his voyage, and the New World began.
What we need to beware of now is the "New World Order" based on secular materialsm.
