Most food servers get tips from customers when they do the job.
All Sadie Elledge got was a xenophobic insult.
On Monday, the 18-year-old waitress was working the lunch shift at Jess’ Lunch, in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
At one of her tables was a couple that ordered two gyros and a salad.
Elledge told WHSV reporter Isabel Rosales that she gave them decent service, but when it came time to pay the $26.11 bill, she found a surprise on her receipt.
Instead of a tip, there was a note: “We only tip citizens,” with the signature of one “Ada M. Doriot.”
“I thought it was real disrespectful,” she told Rosales during a Facebook Live interview.
Elledge, whose father was born in Honduras and mother was born in Mexico, is a U.S. citizen who grew up in Harrisonburg.

It pays to increase your word power.
Some will tip with cash at a table and will therefore not fill in anything on a charge slip. I have taken to writing in “At table” on my slips after having done that. At least HTRN will never be the target of a “wouldn’t tip them because they were the wrong kind of people” hoax.

Leaving a note on the check that the tip is on the table is a very good idea. The amount of the tip should be included. That way, if the place has bus persons, the server would know if the tip, or portion of the tip was stolen. I’ve had that happen to me when I waited tables. Then the facility demands that you tip the bus persons a certain percent of what you were supposed to earn for the volume of business that you did. So, the thieves get both your tip that you didn’t get, PLUS what you should have earned whether you got it or not.
Most of the time, I hunt down my wait person and hand the tip over, in cash. That way, there is no doubt. Bus person didn’t steal it, neither did a customer. And who wants to pay interest on the tips? It’s a good money saver for the customer to pay a cash tip.
Some facilities actually charge the wait person a fee on the tip left from a credit card transaction.
If I am NOT satisfied with the service..ie grossly negligent, I do the old fashioned thing of leaving 2 pennies.
I remember a friend of mine who complained to management that she got stiffed only to learn that the tip was in cash, but not on the credit card. Management chased down the customer to find out if their service was bad. I guess that was an embarrassing situation because the tip was above ample. I’m not completely sure of how the mix up happened, only that it did.
When you wait tables, you MUST realize that at some point in time, you WILL be stiffed. Some people simply don’t believe in tipping, and some people truly ARE prejudiced. Live with it, it’s part of the territory.

Even if someone were an illegal alien waitress, you should be punishing the business owner for hiring her by not eating at their restaurant.
It says the lady who is in hotseat was at the place with the police. She says she signed the receipt but didnt write the comment.
If they are like me...i tip in cash and dont put it on the receipt...so the server gets all the money upfront. I know that if you have it rung up...many times servers dont get their tip or only a partial.
As crude as the printed message is compared to the signature I think this is a fraud.
Ninety percent of the time I pay my restaurant bill with cash. Occasionally I'll charge it, but I always tip with cash.
I want the wait staff to get it not a percentage from 'the house'.

Although considering his childhood it was not really surprising. I think the wisest thing his wife did was leave him to try to protect their daughter.
But my reason for bringing him up was that his daughter was named Ada. And since apparently all females with the name of Ada are the offspring of either Mormons or Free Masons I was curious about which one he was.
Hate too much? I vote Republican and I find the act tasteless and self-hating. first off, we all have our prejudices but there is no reason to be mean. Period. just put $0.00 and be done, no reason to take it that far.
Secondly, how can someone be so demeaning unless that person has a need to put someone down? It makes no sense except Doriot feels so bad about herself, that she can only feel better by demeaning others. regardless, true or not, Ada M. Doriot wont’ be able to eat out much, not without looking under her food. She sabotaged herself.
