Dual-Core, 2GB RAM iPhone 6s Beats Octa-Core, 4GB RAM Galaxy Note 7 In Real-World Speed Test

There’s always a very interesting period of smartphones comparison whenever a manufacturer introduces a new device into the market. The majority of non-technically au fait consumers will simply make their decisions based on the manufacturer of the hardware or the underlying operating system, but there’s always another particular subset of enthusiasts.

Such users are not only passionate about how a new device performs, but also how it performs in comparison to the competition that’s already available. With that in mind, it was inevitable that Samsung’s latest 2016-released Galaxy Note 7 was going to be compared with Apple’s 2015 iPhone 6s range.

The recently announced Galaxy Note 7 has managed to once again reignite the appetites of those who prefer their smartphone to come packing with a stunning display that eclipses the size found on most smartphones. As is always the case with Samsung’s Galaxy Note range, the stunning 5.7-inch display is the focal point of the hardware, but if you abstract that away, has Samsung made enough changes in the underlying hardware and software to allow the Note 7 to compete on-par with other devices on the market? We find out in this video which pits the Note 7 against the iPhone 6s in a head-to-head real-world speed test.

We would have much preferred to see the Galaxy Note 7 compared against Apple’s iPhone 6s Plus, as that is the Apple device that would most likely compete with Samsung’s latest flagship, but even with the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s, we can get a good understanding of how Samsung’s latest hardware and software combination compares to a device that’s pushing close to its twelve month anniversary, and in all honesty, the results don’t speak overly highly of the product that Samsung has built.

On the first round of launching apps, Apple’s iPhone 6s almost instantly catapults itself into a lead by managing to invoke and run apps much more efficiently than the Note 7.

In fact, as much as Samsung and fans of the company’s devices may not actually want to hear this, Apple’s iPhone 6s, which is nearly a year old and has half the RAM of the Note 7 at 2GB, managed to complete both laps of app launches before Samsung’s latest hardware had even finished the first.

Yes, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s has a dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, and it runs iOS. But this software and hardware combination has been extremely well optimized to drive the 1334×750 resolution display smoothly in real-world situations. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on the other hand has octa-core processor, 4GB RAM, and it runs TouchWIz UI on top of Android, and if this video is anything to go by, it clearly isn’t enough or hasn’t been optimized well to drive 2560×1440 resolution display smoothly in real-world situations.

Check out the video for yourself to see what you think of this head-to-head race.

Performance asides, there’s no denying that many consumers have been eagerly awaiting the launch of Samsung’s latest Android-powered device. Apple on the other hand is due to launch its 2016 flagship smartphone range in a few weeks time. It will be interesting to see how will those perform against Galaxy Note 7.

My beef as you with Apple is because I think it is crap

is that really all it is? Seriously?

This is why I think you aren't being honest with me, or yourself. Why are you here attacking Apple? Not just on this thread, but on others? Is it insecurity? Perhaps you are a closeted homosexual and are projecting? Such rage at a phone, Ill-informed rage, that seems mis-directed. Why?

No one has a gun at your head, forcing you to buy anything Apple. It isn't Apple's fault that Google is selling your information or that Android competitors cannot come up with original designs. If not for Apple, Android would look much like the old Blackberry phones.

Do you know what you do NOT see? Threads on MSFT or Android with me or Sword attacking Android or MSFT. I work with MSFT on a daily basis, I design and program with Windows machines because I have to. I run Apple at home because I chose to. My Mac at home runs OSX, WinXP, Win7Pro and Win10 Pro at the same time. Yes, all of them simultaneously. Can your box do that? Mine can, and does.

Two thoughts.

First, I would contend this is not a "real world" speed test. Well, maybe it is for an ADHD teen simultaneously updating status on multiple social media sites, watching videos, generating his/her next meme etc. Me, probably 90+% of my usage is a couple of simple apps, oh, and I actually make phone calls with my phone. My several year old 'droid has enough memory to keep my "go-to" apps going in the background, they start nearly instantly as far as I can tell. So this "real world" speed test has absolutely nothing to do with my "real world" usage.

Second, even if you prove to me an iPhone could do what I typically do faster than a 'droid. So what? a) I still prefer the 'droid way of doing things over the Apple way of doing things. b) I typically check my phone during downtime. I really don't care if email opens in 0.0002 sec or 3 whole seconds.

Like I said, that's just me. I admit a bias - I prefer the 'droid ecosystem and environment to Apple. (wife is Apple, so yes, I have more than a little experience with the other side) If app load/switching speed is high on your list of priorities then by all means, go with what moves you. For me, it's just not a discriminator.

” it’s easier to type with my two fat thumbs on the Motorola Droid Turbo than it is on the iPad mini. “

Use Siri instead of typing on your iPad mini. Or you can add a keyboard if that is more comfortable.

No not full fledged Unix. Where is the shell? Where are the utilities, Python support?

I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard for it, and I like it quite a bit. I can type as fast on that as I can a "regular" keyboard. I just don't like having to carry it around separately with me all the time, and all the keyboards that are built into the cases are terrible. Keys are too close together to make them useful for me.

I'd not thought about using Siri to type --- that's a great idea. I'll have to figure out how to do that today. Thanks so much for that tip!

Yeah, I like my S6 as well. Everyone else in my family is Apple, and it is worse than politics or religion to discuss which is better.

I like Android because you have a lot more control as someone who is a technophile. One small example is WIFI tools. There are many of these for Android to test signal strength. Apple considers them hacking tools so no luck.

Also it is easy to root Android devices. This lets YOU be in control not the vendor.

And that's why Android is a sea of malware. If you can root the device, so can someone else who wants into your device. . . and you won't know it, and on 90% of the devices in the wild, the Android users will not be able to do anything about it.

Lololol.....

So, Google, the source of Android, is a pristine, godly company with your best interest at heart? If you believe that, you might deserve the data-mining, financial support of the radical Left agenda (INCLUDING having spent more $ on the gay agenda than Apple) you are supporting with your Samsung/Android loyalty.

And the claim of “the product is crap anyway compared to Android” isn’t even worth a comment - as it is even more ridiculous than your other assertion.

Also, while iOS shares the Darwin foundation with OS X, Unix-like shell access is not available for users and restricted for apps, preventing iOS from being fully Unix-compatible.

If you had a command line shell, it wouldn't be very user friendly or secure, would it?

WHat makes this thread so pathetic is how a couple of Apple users take it personal that someone doe snot like Apple. Get over it. I think Apple is crap and the only one who uses Apple is my young daughter who only likes facetime and that is it.

Who started slamming? Twas not me, nor another Apple user - but two Android users who slung junk and baseless statements... When called on it, it’s Apple users taking it personal.

Nothing personal - just a quest for honesty and accuracy.

Well I totally agree. With great power comes great responsibility. But not everyone is responsible enough to own a secure Android device.

I am going for facts and the fact is on another thread there is the usual suspects of taking it personal when Apple is said not t be better.

couldn;t give a rat’s a@@ if one believes the other is better or not, but to see the usuals on here and ex=specially one who gets bent out of shape over their beloved Apple is more amusing.

If osx was a nickel Apple will squeeze it so hard the buffalo would $hit.

Considering that OSX is given away FREE, I fail to understand your statement. MSFT now is forced to give away their OS updates; yet Apple has done this for quite a while.

Build a Hackintosh and you can download the OS for free, no codes to crack. So the penny pinching comment makes little sense.

On the plus side, it doesn’t lend itself to the wealth of security issues Windows is famous for. It doesn’t use Back Doors that are “accidentally leaked, and OSX remains one of the more secure OS’s on the market today.

Not bad for free.

Considering Apple charges a 40-60 % premium for last years products it damn well should be free.

Of course we know, nothing is truly free, unless it’s that Gubment money.

But, if you don’t like the offerings; there are a plethora of cheaper products from literally hundreds of other competitors.

People pay a premium for Apple, usually for a reason. Apple products tend to last longer, they tend to be built to a higher standard (and that costs money). Like most things in life; nice things cost more than commodity products.

On the other hand, the price you pay for something has a lot to do with how well you take care of it.

Apple has limited hardware offerings and a very narrow base. It is still a boutique offering except in phones.

iTunes is a classic example of staying with a paradigm too long. We’ll see how well they do with ioT.

About the only move they’ve made with openness is Swift. Swift was several years too late to make the impact they hoped. Apple has always treated software as the readheaded step child. They stuck with Obj-C far, far too long.

It seems that hardware has finally outpaced software. For decades there was a serious need to upgrade your PC/Mac every 3-4 years. Now, your 5 year old PC/Mac does pretty much anything you need it to do.

Throw in the latest nVidia 1080P chipset video card for $400 and you have a very capable modern gaming system on a 5+ year old box. The race for better software to optimize the hardware experience just doesn’t matter like it used to.

Perhaps this is why Swift isn’t having rhe impact it could, or should have had.
