I asked Carlton Sickles if he was ‘someone famous’ because my colleagues in the doctor’s office were making such a fuss over him. He smiled and gave me his Metro 35 Yr. service pin. I keep it with my jewelry;0

I admonished William Sessions; “As a LE officer, you should have known better!!!” he chuckled as we went our separate ways.

BTW - I love your posts;) WF

My mother dated Huntz Hall. He was one of the Bowery Boys. I am not certain if I believe her as he was 13 years her senior and my mother was just 18 but there are pictures of them.

My sister and I attended a book signing several years ago for An Inconvenient Book at one of the big box book stores in town. Had barely heard him a few times back then, but was liking what he was saying, and went because my sister was going, and met her there. Received Ticket # Nine Hundred and something as we walked into the store and the line snaked around every aisle. I was about to walk out but my sister said let’s go this way and we squeezed into an aisle and suddenly found ourselves near the front of the line. We were among the first ten or so to see him. He scrawled some unintelligible roundish symbol in my book and we shook hands and I said Hi and the assembly line continued.

He was lucky he saw me at all, haha.

Listening to Beck now is like not getting to the remote in time when Conan comes on after the last show I was watching, and every word spoken is a shot against Trump.

I read through the prior replies, had met some of the folks mentioned and realized that I wasn’t happy to have met them. They may be ‘somebody’ but they aren’t really important.

Jim is and it has been my pleasure to have been a part of Free Republic since “I was there, where were you?” by MrConfettiman.

(I have seen humblegunner in a picture online. It wasn’t a blog!)

I shook hands with Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush. They made it a point to meet with the military members when they flew into an AF Base. When Clinton visited, they not only didn’t have us meet him, they wouldn’t even allow non-essential personnel to be on that end of the base.

When I lived in Sarasota, Florida, also home of Jerry Springer, my wife and were in line to see a movie and Jerry Springer and his entourage come in and was whisked into the front of the line...

He stopped to shake people's hands on the line waiting to get in...

He come to me and I refused to shake his hand and told him:

"I don't shake human debris hands"...

It didn't faze him a bit and moved on...

Robert Heinlein. At a convention. he was involved in the quest to make blood available more easily for people with rare types (either he or his wife and a rare type). as a O-Negative, not rare in itself but able to donate to those with rare types like AB negative he gave me a handshake and an autograph (I was 15)...

Scary, harsh looking old guy with the evil eye, at least that’s how he seemed in 1976 to me. I could barely speak I was so in awe.

How could I forget? Hillary Clinton, 2000, at Listening Tour at a local college during her race for NYS Senator. The event was completely controlled, with pre-approved commenters on the subject of volunteering. She just nodded—no comments to the speakers, but she gave brief prepared comments at the end. Secret Service deployed about every 3-5 feet of both levels of the field house. More than half the audience was gone by the halfway point of her appearance. She stood alone at a rope line, which nobody visited—just walked on by as they exited.

Afterward, TV anchors stood on folding chairs in an empty venue, excitedly reporting a fictitious event I never saw, and I was there the whole time. They hyper-inflated the crowd size. The room was neither empty or full. I got the official capacity from a custodian. The press reported several times the maximum crowd that the Fire Marshall would have permitted.

I sat on Chesty Pullers lap and shared my Oreo cookies with him when I was 4. My grandmother took a picture.

I met B.B. King at a church singing event in Memphis in 68.

I picked up Elvis Costello from O’hare Airport and we had a pizza & beer together at Gino’s East when I was an intern at WXRT FM. I was 19.

Met Lemmy from Motorhead in a park, thought he was a homeless guy. Shared my sub and extra bottle of water and he gave me two passes for their show in Denver that night.

Drank coffee next to Steve Buschimi in a little diner in NJ while he was filming “Sopranos” He tipped the waitress pretty good unlike his character Mr Pink in Reservoir Dogs.

Met Dan Quayle at the Lake Co. fair in Indiana.

Met R. Lee Ermey at the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot.

Sold William Bailey (Axl Rose) 2 New 1988 Honda Accords for his Mom & Sister in Lafayette, IN.

Fed Alice Cooper grilled burgers and hot dogs after a show at Indiana Beach in Monticello IN while his band mates drank beer next door because they weren’t allowed to drink in the bar. Really nice guy BTW. Had no clue as to who he was at the time. Was introduced as Vince.

But the best was when I was 12. My Uncle took me fishing in California with John Wayne on his converted minesweeper, along with his son Patrick and some other guys that were in the westerns as character actors. I fetched a lot of beers that day and even got to catch a fish. I spent the summer with my Aunt & Uncle and they took pictures. My parents freaked out when I got home.

Oh and went to a BBQ and met Mr. Roy and Miss Dale and got my picture taken on Trigger (and fed him apples)in my cowboy duds. Very nice people.

Well that’s my brush with greatness.

Mean to Jerry! Wow! I knew several of the bouncers that worked on his show. They worked out at the gym where I was employed. They told me the whole thing was a scam. The entire thing was orchestrated but that some of the idiots they had on had real potential to cause trouble and sometimes did. Some of the bouncers were into the early forms of MMA before it was MMA.

Hey Sod! Good to see you!

Great stories there. Here’s a quick one about Tim Allen.

He was a customer of mine when we worked in SoCal. One day I’m working on his house and I hear what sounds like a semi truck roaring behind his pool house.

I go to investigate, because we’re way up in the hills where it’s really peaceful and quiet. What on earth would a semi truck be doing up here??

Anyway, I get around to the back of the pool house and there sits this enormous diesel generator, running full steam. Next to it is a huge battery of storage batteries, which it is obviously recharging.

I just stood there and laughed. Tim’s famous for being the macho tool guy, but I always thought it was an act. Not even. He really is that guy. You should have seen the electrical closet at that house. It was industrial scale.

Yea... pretty much if you could fog a mirror or are a liberal, you knew it was on some level a scam...

Springer exploits people for his own personal profit...in my book that makes him scum...
