Hmm...I have mocked Burners before but I'm guessing somebody may be missing the point:

...a “wellness retreat inspired by Burning Man” called Playa to the Pool, to be held Saturday, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to help Burners relive the experience. The event includes a $600 poolside cabana option, face-painting and hair-braiding à la Black Rock City, and a must-see “Rock Star Shaman” workshop. Some ticket brackets have already sold out.

Six bills for poolside, a Rock Star Shaman...I don't think that even at its most pretentious we could hang that one on Burning Man. PT Barnum, maybe. What was it he said was born every minute?

Still, he says, the Burning Man ethos endures long after the party ends.

“In a post-apocalyptic world, post-nuclear holocaust, this is the way people can survive.”

Oh, surely! If survival in the future involves body painting, dancing, drinking, and doing drugs, it's a sure winner! If, on the other hand, post-apocalyptic survival depends more on things like water, food, fire, and shelter, then maybe not.

...somebody's making some money from the no money mandated event.

"Most Burning Man 2016 tickets to cost between $424-$1,308", plus $80 parking charged by the nearby muni.

Funny thing is after spending that kind of money, we still see ‘burners’ around town begging for money to get back to where ever they came from. Well, except the uber rich that flew in for the “event” on private jets. Or “camped” out on the playa in million dollar RVs.

I'd tweak it a little so that it rolls off the tongue. If this changes the meaning or makes it odd, please reprimand me:

"Forget Burning Man. Go to hung on a Cross Man".

I've seen some documentaries on it. Part of the money does go to clean up the mess.

The "radical chic" and "Be there or be square" mentality drives a lot of it.

I had an otherwise above average boss that like to go to such events. I asked him why, and he said because there's so much [world/national] attention on them, and he wanted to be there.

It’s stuff like this that makes me wish we were back in the days when cops could break up hippie gatherings without needing a mountain of paperwork beforehand and worrying about lawsuits afterword!

Putting aside the rampant drug-related lawbreaking, rape, bastardy, panhandlers and other public health dangers (like STDs) generated by this event, as far as I can tell it is a designated zone where the rule of law does not apply that is host by a large number of people who like that idea. Ask France what happens when you allow that. The bigger it gets and the longer it is allowed to go on, the more you admit by doing nothing that you can have essentially a pirate’s haven without the parrots and cutlasses.

The part that really caught me is the fact that returning to the organized world of work and obligations seemed less REALISTIC, than total strangers supplying your water food and drugs in a desert environment.

They didn’t seem to like that 12 hour traffic jam while they searched for a missing juvenile once they were all leaving.

They don’t let you into Burning Man for free.

Not cheap.

"They give you water if you’re thirsty and feed you if you’re hungry," says Kaplan

So, it's a festival to deceive the masses into believing how great socialism and communism can be?

No thanks. Sounds like a high-tech version of Woodstock.
