“A spanking is supposed to hurt”

“You don’t hurt little girls.”

Which is it?

You know, I think there are two sides (duh!) to this incident.

***Exactly right. I fear some people have led far too sheltered lives. They do not have a realistic view of what constitutes “abuse.”***

I think I might be able to put some perspective on this, if you don’t mind. I was an abused child/teenager/young adult. This sort of behavior (hair pulling via cart/hand) may not always be indictative of child abuse, but it certainly can be, as well. We don’t know the whole story, true. However, I have experienced smaller forms of abuse in public than what I received in private, and I can guarantee that none of you want to hear the private stories. Nor would I tell them. I am concerned that this child may be being abused at home more harshly. This girl may get more abuse as a result of the woman speaking up, and what will happen then, is that she doesn’t say anything to anyone at all, even when she does need real help from an adult. In that regard I am concerned for her well-being.

Do I want for her family to be separated? No, not unless that will help them get real help in the long run, If this one incident will be enough to get Dad to examine his ways, then maybe this intrusion by the woman will be helpful. The thing is, how do we know?

I also understand that children can and do act up in public places. Some of them lie and exaggerate, like your niece. It is a very challenging fine line.

Like fake rape allegations, fake allegations of child abuse hurt the kids who really do need someone to step in.

The Burch woman who put this out originally brought up the CPS angle.
She was also lying about the “dragging”.

Fat boy dad with the pansy scruffy chinbeard was an idiot for doing this in the store. He could have spanked her at home if she really needed it.

After reading the article and viewing the photos (I didn’t watch the video) I don’t think I could have “minded my own business”.

Big Tough Asshole would have been on the floor bleeding . . .

When you learn to understand the difference between child abuse and discipline you’ll understand.

I have no problem with someone telling the guy he’s an idiot. I would have no problem with someone taking him outside for a little wall-to-wall counseling as we used to call it; however, I was responding to the people on this thread who were calling for CPS.

Yes people should stand up and say something. They shouldn’t feel afraid to tell a child or adult that their behavior is wrong. Everyone walks around on eggshells because we have no common sense and no common decency. Of course you will have a police state when there are no alternatives.

Does anyone remember when the saying “don’t make a Federal case out of it” was in vogue? It was part of the vernacular back in the days when we had a free country. Bad things happened then and sin still ruled the world, but this country once held to a common set of Biblical values that transcended generations. Back when men were men and women were respected—sometimes at the muzzle of a shotgun. People had no problem grabbing little Jimmie and putting the fear of God into him when he was acting like a hellion.

Today, people are afraid of their ‘neighbors,’ and they fear their government with good reason. As we used to say to our children you can have self control, or you will be subject to external controls. As our country has abandoned her values and self control, new values are now imposed by external powers.

There is a reason for the order in God, Family and Country. It reflected the hierarchy of power and the spheres of influence that God instituted. The state has no business in family matters unless it reaches a criminal stage. This girl wasn’t injured—her hair wasn’t pulled out, set on fire, or filled with feces or lice—all of which I’ve seen.

If the Church hadn’t abdicated her role, this man would be held accountable by spiritual leadership. Unfortunately, churches are more interested in maintaining their 501-C3 status than leading their flocks—and that encompasses both the sides of the Reformation.

So it is OK to hurt a little girl even though you say you do not hurt little girls?
