Video: Underwater Glock-Fishing For Lionfish
OutdoorHub ^ | 9/22/16

Lionfish are an invasive species doing a lot of harm to underwater ecosystems. They’re basically the feral pigs of oceans reefs.

This underwater Glock-fishing video was originally made to see if this group of guys could shoot a Glock underwater, and once they realized it was possible, it developed into much more.

With no known predator, the lionfish has been eradicating baitfish all across the ocean. These guys do their part in slowing the lionfish devastation by bringing their Glocks underwater with them and firing away. The guns had to have a few modifications done to them, and then they were ready to go.

This video shows some really cool slow-motion footage of the guns being fired underwater, and they look like they shoot fine, just ask the lionfish.

I had one of these as a pet in a salt water aquarium years ago. Cool and beautiful, but dangerous. Really intense stingers on their fins. Fed him live goldfish. Fascinating creature. They used to be expensive. Now they’re a nuisance. Go figure!

Pit Bulls among the colorful, sweet little Nemo fish.

Actually the tree huggers hate those fish. Invasive marauders of the reef. Spearfishermen are pretty much their only natural enemy. There’s no limit on them, and supposedly they taste good, once you remove the poisonous spines.

Neat accessory! Looks like they are from my old stomping grounds in Manatee county. That last aerial shot near the end of the video is the bridge between Longboat key and Anna Maria Island.

Pretty cool!

I tried my G27 under water years ago- works flawlessly- accuracy was OK to about 8 feet, but energy was poor. Perhaps a sleek FMJ compared to a JHP would work better!

I wonder why the aluminum tube- does it attenuate blast/bubbles or increase performance?

I know it's not a silencer, bur it's funny to think of that way. Maybe he was killing the lionfish for inheritance.

There is an additional link at site that expands on the suppressor.

It is purpose built for underwater. The gun is apparently very loud underwater, to the point of pain, even far away. The dude goes into detail, there’s a cross section.

Reminds me of the old James movie where the soviet defector lands his plane in the water.

Correct. Disrupts shock wave to deaden the sound. Bingo.
