Heavy chocolate consumption may be linked to heart health, study suggests
BMJ-British Medical Journal ^ | August 30, 2011 | BMJ-British Medical Journal

High levels of chocolate consumption might be associated with a one third reduction in the risk of developing heart disease, suggests a study published online in the British Medical Journal....

The findings confirm results of existing studies that generally agree on a potential beneficial link between chocolate consumption and heart health. However, the authors stress that further studies are needed to test whether chocolate actually causes this reduction or if it can be explained by some other unmeasured (confounding) factor....

They analysed the results of seven studies, involving over 100,000 participants with and without existing heart disease. For each study, they compared the group with the highest chocolate consumption against the group with the lowest consumption. Differences in study design and quality were also taken into account to minimise bias.

I have Diverticulosis on top of the Gastropresis which is high carb/protein eating as you don’t digest fiber raw or cooked, so seeds, nuts or rice are not edible foods, even seeds as small as those from a Strawberry can set off a bout of Diverticulitis, which is as painful as a kidney or gall stone, which means a ER and Hospital trip/stay. Add in the NO Soy or grapefruit being Hypothyroid brings your food choices are very limited. It’s a case of follow the GASTRO’s orders or end up in the ER and hospital. The only fruit I can handle is a banana and that is restricted to mashed and half a small one. And that drives up sugar readings big time.

Easier to avoid what your GI Track can’t handle.

I am sorry to hear about your condition. (Seriously.) I hope your diet helps you!

That said, this is obviously not the food thread you are looking for!

No, but I am a Chocoholic and miss it a ton. I’ve just come to terms with what I can and can’t eat any more and be in the least pain. Since I’m sea food allergic it’s made it easier to learn to avoid what I can’t eat, has taken me 5 yrs to eliminate all that will cause issues most thanks to misdiagnosis of Idiopathic Colitis or IBD. GP is not even well understood by Gastro’s. The key is diet, not meds except for break through issues. But a fine line between eating to hyper glycemic and staying on the low end and not to much protein as that is a joint pain waiting to increase. So you take sugar readings every AM just like a diabetic and have a good relationship with your ENDO. And ignore your PCP.
