NBC’s flagship Sunday Night Football game had its smallest audience in five years this week, evidence of the NFL’s new deflation issue.

The game between Indianapolis and Houston reached 13.6 million viewers, removing the weekly broadcast from its usual spot at or very close to the top of the Nielsen company ratings. CBS’ Thursday night game scored slightly higher. …

Everybody has their theories as to why ratings are off.

1. Thug players
2. Games too long. Why does it take 3 1/2 hours to play a game nowadays?

3. Why do they go to a commercial right after the kickoff, when they already took a long commercial break right before the kickoff?

4. Why does it seem as if the replay reviews take forever?

Glad the NFL's ratings are ging down the toilet, couldn't care less. The Anti-American, black racust "Only Black Lives Matter" NFL is dead to our entire family. Haven't watched ANY NFL games, not going to watch ANY NFL games, period! The NFL loves these racists, then let the "Only Black Lives Matter" crowd watch and pay to support them and ALL OF THE NFL's SPONSORS BECAUSE WE DON'T AND WE WON'T!

BOYCOTT THE ANTI-AMERICAN NFL!

Think of the HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars being lost every week by sports memerobilia and NFL merchandise clothing store's, sports bars, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dominos, Papa John's, and other pizza chains... the list is endless = ALL of the ancillary businesses that make a huge part of their money, living/profit off of former NFL fans who are actively boycotting the NFL BY THE MILLIONS! I bet these business owners (and NFL sponsors) are angry as blazes and frantically contacting the NFL team owners, the NFL management and Goddell daily and screaming about how much the NFL's Anti-American, black racism is costing them and absolutely KILLING THEIR BUSINESSES! Like I said:

BOYCOTT THE ANTI-AMERICAN NFL!

In Britain, English Premier League ratings are off 20% from a year ago.

I think online streaming has a lot to do with it. Can’t remember the last time I watched a sporting event on my TV.

If Mr Trump were to Call Out NBC now for the latest crap that has come out, it just might FINISH OFF the National Felon League.

4. Why does it seem as if the replay reviews take forever?

And they replay the replay over and over analyzing it over and over while the real play is happening.

Streaming is definitely becoming more prevalent. Cord-cutting stories get some press (with some of it positive) and scare providers and broadcasters but people still have an interest (for now) in sports and kudos to them for their persistence and ingenuity.

It’s a video-enabled repeat of the MP3 revolution and providers will reap what they have sown with their ludicrous bundling and other oligopolistic practices that have the blessing of corrupt lawmakers and the even more corrupt FCC.

I wish more people, especially dilettante lefties and Reddit types, would realize that the whole cable/satellite/sports/streaming dynamic is a very apt metaphor for reducing the burden of taxation. Nothing gets government’s attention faster than a lack of money and nothing reduces their power more rapidly and comprehensively.

The weird thing about this is that it ended up being a really good game.

I started watching something else when the Colts were up 23-9 with 7 minutes to go.

I changed the channel back and the Texans had won in OT.

Thankfully I have DVR, so I was able to rewind it and find out how that happened.

An amazing comeback win.

Judging by the fact that about half of the Texans fans had already left, no real surprise that this ended up being lowly rated.

Betcha they thought it was a lost cause at that point.

I had the same experience. DVR is the only way to see what you want and you can f/f thru the white male hating commercials. ;o) I expect the networks to somehow try to get around this feature in the future.

I could have told them Colts/Texans would be a stinker. There were 5 Sunday afternoon games better than this.

It actually had a great finish but anyone except Texan fans, Colt fans and gamblers had already switched off.

Last year was a record year for NFL viewership and here is an interesting article from January 10, 2016. This is how things looked early this year.

Why there is no ceiling in near future for NFL ratings, more Media Circus

The NFL is coming up with various explanations for the drop in audience this year, but I think it is most all due to Kaepernick and those who have joined him in his workplace protests. All those factors the NFL is more comfortable with just did not change so suddenly from only the previous season. And the presidential race has only been in direct competition with a couple of games.

I’m a cord-cutter and my work schedule now includes Sundays so I got the NFL Game Pass for $99/yr. I don’t get to see the live games but I can see a replay not long after the game is over than I can watch sans commercials, or an edited version that just shows snap-to-whistle every play in about 45 minutes.

Very cool if you’re going to put the best games on DVD for future storage.

So, yes, I’m paying money directly to the NFL but the networks can’t list me as a viewer so I can watch all the football I want without lining the pockets of the networks.

If you’d rather watch live, you can also stream through Kodi and international feeds for freebo.

ESPN reporter round table -

Of course they all insisted that the flag/anthem protests had nothing to do with the drops. They were actually complaining about yellow flags
