Let’s stop defining women by men or Sexism is a man’s issue
UMass Daily Collegian ^ | 10/19/16 | Gaudette

It’s 2016 and gender relations are the best they’ve been in American history. The wage gap between men and women is one of the smallest ever on record, we’re on the cusp of the first female presidency and more attention is being paid to issues that affect women. But despite progress, women make 80 cents on the dollar compared to men and sexual assault is a plague on college campuses. There is a long way to go until equality is realized and gigantic issues are addressed. The world can’t change in a day, but anyone can make small changes that make the world a better place, changes that alter language and representation regarding women. Let’s stop using language and practices that perpetuate male dominance.

Let’s stop calling women Miss...

The implication of these practices regarding fathers, husbands, women and girls is twofold. First, women, even those who hail from more liberal upbringings, are ultimately owned, and thus controlled, by men. Second, because of this ownership, women are taught to limit their behavior so the product (women) is not damaged when handed off to the second owner. Men have no such pressures and limitations on their bodies or lives...

Just like any form of sexism, practices like these aren’t a woman’s job to change. Sexism is a man’s issue.

These man-hating dykes would do well to kiss the feet of the next male they come across, in deference to male dominance. Because it is the best thing that ever happened to them even if they don’t know it.

In the meantime, an injustice is occurring: somewhere, a sandwich is not being made, and a man goes hungry.

My people cry out for justice!

In a similar vein, I present this joke:

Q. How many men does it take to open a beer?

A. None. It should be open when she brings it.

Men are taught to be polite, especially to women.
It takes a warped mind to call that sexist, male dominated, oppressive and whatever else she can dredge up from her hateful rage.

“It’s 2016 and gender relations are the best they’ve been in American history.”

The writer has obviously been smoking too much Happy Weed.

And drinking too much Kool Aid.

This is embarrassing.

Where is the outrage of feminists when so many men are still turned on by beautiful young women having lesbian sex?

The "product" is the woman's virtue - her bodily innocence. Men are also instructed to keep theirs intact.

Women are to be a civilizing influence on men. They are the Yin to men's Yang. The opposing but complementary force that improves both sides.

And this author thinks that special role is repression, because it expects too much.

Can you imagine dedicating your life to issues like this? What an utter waste of one life ...

Incorrect. Fathers, who historically controlled access to their daughters, were the real civilizing influence. If you weren't met with approval by the father, you could forget being allowed anywhere near the daughter.

That joke still irritates my wife, just a bit.

Your last name will be male-derived no matter what. It will be your husband’s, your father’s, your grandfather’s, etc. No matter how far you go back. You would have to make up your own name. While you’re at it, independence of name requires you make up your first name as well since it was bestowed upon you by your parents who imagined that they own you and can name you. So, how far does someone want to take this silliness really? Nothing more important in life, no REAL problems then?

If a female president does for gender relations what a black president did for race relations, are we ever in trouble!

Perhaps the best solution is to give everyone a randomly generated number as the chief identifier. For convenience, we could tattoo the number on their arm. I think that this would be a wonderful Final Solution to the naming problem that Progressives feel is so important. Granted, it might take a little work, but as someone once said: “Work Makes you Free”, although that phrase sounds better in the original German.

I think that both positions are correct, honestly.

During their formative years, a gentlemanly father (which should NOT be read to mean one who not manly) teaches his daughters the way a man should treat a woman. During adulthood, once the man and his wife are married, he is to be the “head of the household”, seeking his wife’s counsel, yet still being the final arbiter for decisions.

Different phases in the human condition. I believe both are correct.

Thanks for the addition.

Yes, that works! Still, though, there is the horrible problem of names of sports teams. After that we have the names of towns. So hard to live in the most prosperous time in history in one of the richest and best countries; so hard. The left is working on fixing that too!
