Campus protestors at the University of Oklahoma are demanding the sexual assault prevention program “One Sooner” be renamed, charging its incorporation of a long-time state description actually references violence against Native Americans.
The program, which is facilitated by the campus Gender + Equality center, aims to re-educate students to “use their influence on campus to prevent sexual assault and misconduct.”

Cheater = Democrat.
THAT’S why they are offended.
Problem solved.
Perhaps they can call themselves ‘prematures.’
Do away with “sooner” and there go half the words from their fight song lyrics.

I asked an OU student if they had created safe spaces there yet, and she acknowledged they had. I asked her what for, and she tried to explain that sometimes a person just needs to get away from a mean roommate or a negative atmosphere in the dorm. I told her that in my day the safe space was known as a library.

Sooners were ‘officials’ that could legally enter early and then staked claims before the opening.
Moonshiners were the ones that snuck in early.
Frontier land offices were hotbeds of corruption from the earliest days of this country. I’ve got an ancestor who made a killing when TN was created from the then-western reaches of North Carolina.
There are the Boomers and the Sooners.
“Boomers” waited till the “Boom” of the starting canon to make their run to claim unclaimed lands, a real free-for-all!
“SOONERS” slipped in ahead of time and claimed the best. Many were caught and removed by the US Army.
To prevent more free-for-all runs on the unclaimed lands, a lottery system was established.
My great-grand-parents were part of the lottery of 1901 and settled on homesteads near Hobart OK. They did well!
Boomers, as in “boomer sooner” were even bigger cheaters. They kept sneaking onto the land before the land runs were even approved by Congress and organized. So that should further provide a basis for getting rid of that stupid fight song.

My follow-up would have been: “What do you plan to do when you enter the real world, where you can’t run away from your problems?”
One of the better ending stories of the Oklahoma Land Rush was a farmer and family were in the rush but before they could claim land their wagon broke down and they got NONE.
As they were leaving, their camp was visited by two cowboys who had participated and claimed land there. During the visit, the cowboys said they really had no urge to upgrade their claims and so for fifteen dollars each, they sold their claims to the farmer. He said it was real good land!
I hate the term “sooners” because HOOK’EM!
I should mention that my wife’s great-grand-parents settled north of Guthrie around Mulhall, Real good land except for that slippery black stuff that sticks to the feet.

Ok, do away with the name. Just call them that red and white team. Oops, there it is again. Red man and white man. Simple solution is to put an end to all sports. That’ll send a good portion of students home without scholarships and cause a tuition hike for everyone.
In Columbia, Missouri we called it “The Heidelberg”. Providing safe spaces to students for 53 years and counting.
