Data shows the number of adults with the disease has risen by 1.5 million in the past ten years,
with GPs now reporting 3.6 million patients aged 17 and older on their records.

There has been an increase of 137,000 in the past year alone – largely due to an explosion in cases of Type 2 diabetes.

No refined sugar. No grains. No commercially processed foods.

Eat real foods.

Nonsense. Sugars have been eaten for centuries. Ignore these diet alarmists. They are most always wrong.

Type 2 diabetes is a disease of affluence and stupidity.*Genuinely* poor people (think Africa) don’t get it and smart people don’t either.

Once upon a time diabetics died off young. Now they are treated, live longer and produce diabetic children. 1 equals 3 equals 9. AND they can’t figure out why there are more and more diabetics?

I’m not implying it is wrong to treat a disease but in the long run they should not be surprised that it multiplies when it is a genetic problem. They need to find a cure instead of treating it.

You are correct, but I would go a little further. Cut the carbohydrates, all carbohydrates, to a minimum and increase the healthy fats. This diabetes epidemic started when we began to fear fats and replaced them with carbs. We have been given completely incorrect dietary advice for 40 years now.

Look at the contents of processes food. I challenge you to find food that does not contain added sugar or corn syrup.

Thanks for the insult. As if the disease is not bad enough, I have to suffer your lofty opinions?

The problem with your assessment is that the vast majority of Type II DM is a consequence of being significantly overweight, not a specific genetic profile. There are a number of biological mechanistic reasons for this. One of the interesting aspects of bariatric surgery for weight loss is that after the surgery there is often great improvement or eradication of Type II DM in these people.

While in the UK they loved joking about fat Americans just like we made fun of their teeth. They might not be able to keep this up anymore as they join the world obesity club.

Both my PCP and my Cardiologist are senior staff members of one of the world's most famous hospitals (think Harvard Medical School).I'm quoting *them*.

Type 2 Diabetes is for the most part SELF Inflicted

learn to eat right and it will go away,

High Fat, Moderate Protein, Low or NO Carbs. Especially stay away from REFINED FOODS.

There is a cure. Don’t get it in the first place (type 2). Shitty diets and sedentary lifestyle equals diabetes. My mother is suffering from it and has no one to blame but herself. Too much sugar, rich foods, booze, etc. No exercise either. Now we’re supposed to feel bad for her and sympathize with how many prescriptions she has and how expensive they are.

She’s in her 70’s and should have known better. The real tragedy is seeing young children develop this disease because of their dumb, lazy parents. Or single parent more likely.

I hear you.
Genetics. Until there’s a cure, it’s a factor for all disease. The more that we learn about our particular challenges, the better that we can adapt.
