Most of these "charities" spent less than 5% of their donations on direct aid. Some spent no money for direct aid at all! It's something to consider always, but especially now during this season of giving.

I find it completely bogus that the Susan G Komen foundation didn’t even make the top 50. I think this is a highly selective list myself.

Any charity that doesn’t give a certain % away should lose their 501c3 or whatever designation.

Any such list that omits the Clinton Foundation is suspect in my book.

Just think of them as modeled after the gold standard for “charities”, The Clinton Foundation.

Many of them were police and fire fighter related,HUGE scams

I get calls from them often-—they get zip from me-—and I like cops and firefighters.

This is why I have only a couple of charities I routinely donate to. High on my list is the Salvation Army and The Fisher House.

The clinton Foundation is not on the list because it’s not a charity!!!!

It’s too bad that there are so many purported police, firefighters’, and veterans’ charities that are deservedly on this list. We’ve been solicited by several of them.

There needs to be a list of legitimate charities in these categories, so that we can support our first responders and veterans!!!!

After he died, I noticed Daddy had been donating to several police charities. Odds are they were all scams.

The preacher used to come by monthly to pick up Daddy’s tithe. He seemed like a good man but I don’t recall his visiting at any other time.

Any charity with the word “Justice” in the title is a con job to extort money from companies and the government.

Thank you.

It is almost scary to realize how many exist.

They ALWAYS want to pick up the money———no mailing address ever given.

Each time we get a call from a police benevolent society or fireman’s fund I always ask what percentage of the dollar they actually receive. The answer is typically 10 percent. What they usually don’t tell you is that the 10 percent is only after they reach a certain threshold. One time I was told they had to reach 200K before any amount over that was given to deserving recipients. And that is why I rarely give to charities unless I know them (my church, a local rescue mission, Salvation Army). There are a lot of vultures out there and the profiteering from charitable institution is very high.

I think the Clinton Foundation did not make the list due to the way the list was structured. The list authors chose to focus on how much of the donated money went to paid solicitors.

I looked it up. The Clinton Foundation spends very little money on solicitation. And that’s to be expected. When you are selling influence, you usually don’t have to contact to the mark. The mark contacts you.
