Don’t be surprised if some of The View crew shows up at the Women’s March on Washington this Saturday.
At the end of their show Wednesday, all five View ladies appeared either wearing or holding signature pink hats (“pussy hats”) in support of the march.
“So, you’ll notice a couple of us wearing a pink hat,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg began, before citing the upcoming march as their inspiration.
“Saturday there's this gigantic women's March in Washington and all,” she said to cheers and applause. “So, you know, we're wearing pink hats in celebration of this march of women who are not holding anybody down.”
The day after the inauguration, the women’s march promises to bring thousands of women together to “send a bold message” that (as Hillary Clinton once said), “women’s rights are human rights.” Except, according the march’s pro-abortion platform and its behavior towards pro-life organizations, “women” doesn’t include all women. The organizers recently removed pro-life group New Wave Feminists from their partner list.
Goldberg added, “And we want you to know that we want you to have a great day, whatever day you pick, and take a little time to enjoy the View!”
What she didn’t say was that the pink hats are a part of the “Pussyhat Project” started by two friends, Jayna Zweiman and Krista Suh.
“When I heard about the Women’s March, I knew immediately that I wanted to go,” Suh told People. “I was willing to strip naked for this, but I didn’t know what was the right way to make an impact.”
With Zweiman, she later settled on starting a knitting movement to create the “pussy hat,” a pink hat with cat-shaped ears.
The name alludes to President-elect Donald Trump’s comments in a leaked 2005 tape where he said, in a comment about women that he later apologized for, “Grab them by the pussy.”
The project website went into more detail:
We love the clever wordplay of 'pussyhat' and 'pussycat,' but yes, 'pussy' is also a derogatory term for female genitalia. We chose this loaded word for our project because we want to reclaim the term as a means of empowerment. In this day and age, if we have pussies, we are assigned the gender ‘woman.’ Women, whether transgender or cisgender, are mistreated in this society. In order to get fair treatment, the answer is not to take away our pussies, the answer is not to deny our femaleness and femininity, the answer is to demand fair treatment. A woman’s body is her own. We are honoring this truth and standing up for our rights.

Judging by the righteous indignation of the hat wearers, I have to conclude that none of these women, or any woman for that matter, has ever talked in private about wanting to grab a man by his junk, or another woman by her junk, if that’s what floats their boat.
Imagine if they’d only had pussy hats at Abu Graib. It wouldn’t have been “humiliating,” it would have shown solidarity.
