?? Is this a new volcanic island??
Otherwise what’s the significance ?
I thought the volcano looked interesting. If you don’t like it tough. It’s on chat. You can always hit the abuse button.
Neat! I love islands. Thanks for sharing.
EPA field investigation ordered.Volcano builder to be cited and fined.
Its been erupting almost weekly.Got busy again today.
Thankfully i’m around 1000 miles ne of it.
I think it’s pretty cool.
Thanks.
The only thing better would be if you could get a photo of the actual eruption.
Maybe I’ll search and see if I can find one.
See post 6!
I don’t know if there’s any indication it could go off with a big bang (this type sometimes does), but will be reading more, later...
Found one. It's dated 12/23/16.
Great pic (esp. the full size image at the site.)
Any idea how tall those “spires” are?
That is ripe for a Gary Larson cartoon.
“Hey Bob - let’s anchor in this little bay - we’ll be safe here!”
Find a copy of James Fenemore Cooper’s
The Crater. Great sea story, and it explores the
nature of society.
American traders are ship wrecked on a uncharted
volcanic isle, they homestead it and turn it into
a paradise. They go back to New England load up
a bunch of people and make their way back and found
a community, then the trouble begins. One of the
settlers is a lawyer, one is a newspaper man, one is
a politician. Right away they start taking authority
away from the founders and eventually kick them off
the island. When they finally return, they find
the island gone, it had sunk back into the sea.
Great commentary at one point they are arguing about
the U.S. national debt which was at that time (late 1700s)
around a hundred thousand dollars or so and how the country
could not survive it.
I just “went” there on Google Earth - max. elevation of the island is about 130 feet.
So it's a working volcano , spewing episodically ?
How far offshore ? size ?
Any information about the surrounding water depth, or height above sea level ?
I am not a volcanologist, but I wonder about what type of sea life (flora/ fauna) this would attract to undersea vents.
Har!

Its an active volcano down the Aleutians, pretty far from Anchorage, back in 1992 i was in Anchorage when Mt. Spurr erupted, you could see it erupting across Cook Inlet, dropped 3 inches of ash on Anchorage. There are at least 3 close to Anchorage, Spurr, Redoubt and Cleveland.
Looks like one hell of a place for me to establish my evil empire but, what is the significance?
No global warming has resulted as a result of this eruption.
Thank you for that website. Very interesting !

Vendome : "..a place to build my evil empire"
Be sure to get insurance ! Although I don't know anyone who would underwrite that !
According to the website listed above, the cliffs came crashing down, and part of the island went up/blew up in a plume of ash.
You new evil empire has the possibility of becoming an ash hole !
