Those were the days when late night TV was worth it.

And if that didn’t bring a tear to your eyes, well.........

This month is the 12th anniversary of Carson’s death. Stewart died 20 years ago this July. Ed McMahon died 8 years ago this June.

Time flies.

Thank you for that!! I wish today’s Hollywood stars measured up to just 10% of what true stars like Mr Jimmy Stewart were. In talent, integrity or brains. There simply is no comparison.

Thank you for sharing. A wonderful look into a great man’s soul. And definitely a tear-jerker for those of us who have lost great pets.

Like many on FR I’ve lost my share of great dogs, and Stewart’s poem made me sad for that reason. Like every reader of FR, we’ve all lost a culture in which a great man, and a great actor, could entertain adults on late night television by reading his own sweet poem about a dog. That culture has been replaced with the most pathetic, filthy, shallow crap, that Stewart and even Carson could not begin to imagine.
What a bunch of great losses.

interesting fact- Jimmah Stewart smuggled evidence about ‘abominable snowman’ out of where ever the snowman supposedly resides-

“Jimmy Stewart And The Yeti Hand Of Pangboche”

“The Pangboche Hand was a supposed artifact which was found in Nepal and purported to be from the yeti, or Abominable Snowman. Mountain climber Peter Byrne smuggled it out of the country with some help from his friend, famed actor Jimmy Stewart. DNA testing later revealed it to be a human hand, discrediting yet another claim of evidence for the yeti.”

On the other hand, his poem about Lake Baringo (link) suggests he wasn't as appreciative of nature in general.....

Jimmy was a bomber pilot during WW2 who flew many combat missions over Germany. Upon his return to the States after the war he was a mess, suffering profoundly from PTSD and virtually unable to eat, much less to return to his acting career. Director Frank Capra and Lionel Barrymore (Mr. Potter) coached and encouraged him on the set of It's a Wonderful Life and gradually he recovered.
