The Kansas City Royals star pitcher reportedly died in a car crash today.
Yordano Ventura, a 25-year-old starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, reportedly died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic today.
Cristian Moreno, a bilingual sports journalist for ESPN, confirmed the news on Twitter.
He says the Dominican police force confirmed the accident and tragic death.
Pitchers intimidating hitters and occasionally throwing at them has long been a part of the game. But such incidents were infrequent and largely confined to tactics such as backing the hitter off the plate. Of course tempers flare in sports, and that kind of thing occasionally manifests itself on the field of play. But whenever Ventura took the mound, it was expected that he would throw at somebody. He was likened to an on-field arsonist. Even his own team was disgusted with his routinely dangerous antics.
Ummmmm. No. I actually follow the Royals, and it was never expected he would throw at somebody. And his teammates were never disgusted at him. It’s baseball, and it is part of the game. It’s nothing more than that. It’s been going on since the beginning. Much ado about nothing.
“it was never expected he would throw at anybody”

LOL!!! In actuality, it’s what he is best known for: throwing at hitters. If you follow the Royals, you might be interested in reading this. Or perhaps not.

Please..you sound like a butthurt Orioles fan.
No, I just don’t like the idea of head hunting or cheap shots in sports. People’s hard earned careers and the well being of their families is on the line. Has nothing to do with rooting for any particular team.
Ventura threw at some batters. He had maturity issues. The other teams honed in on it. Big deal. It's baseball. He wasn't the first, nor will he be the last. In the end, he was an extremely talented and promising pitcher with an exceptional fast ball, and he died too soon.
I hadn't heard what with all-politics all the time.
Pro sports performer dies and it’s a tragedy. Actual American heroes die every day in Afghanistan and it’s a yawner.
Its a good thing you werent an opposing player who pissed him off or you might have been on the receiving end of one of his exceptional fast balls.
Thank goodness he wasnt able to end someones career.
When you drink or use and then go drive, this is often the outcome
RIP Yordano.
We saw him pitch the summer before last in a rehab start down the road at Werner Park with the Omaha Stormchasers. I still have those pictures and videos on my phone. Very sad. He was a hard charger.
Horrible, and according to MLB Trade Rumors, the second Dominican ballplayer to die in a crash today, following former major leaguer Andy Marte.

Omar Taveras. I think he was just 22 at the time.
he was on the way to becoming a yuuge star.
He was a very talented young pitcher for teh Kansas City Royals.
Bob Gibson comes to mind.
He actually once gave up a homer to a guy (Jay Johnstone) in his final season, and hit him in retaliation in an old-timer’s game 10 years later.

“like saying Ty Cobb had anger issues (which is a lie too).”

RIP.
He pitched a 7 inning shutout in game 6 of the 2014 WS that he dedicated to his friend,
MLB, and all these players you are claiming disliked him so much, are mourning his death all over social media.
