With a $20 trillion deficit, this seems like a discretionary expenditure that can be ended and funded by private sources. Like the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, the Kennedy Center, Presidential libraries, PBS, and many more government panels and commissions. Even if the dollars are small, a million here and a million there ultimately adds up to a billion. All of these causes have merit but we can simply no longer afford these luxuries. While privatizing these organizations, Congress should start charging admission to the Smithsonian. Let it, and the national parks, pay their own way.
