Under Reagan, it was popular to be successful, make a living, to grow, to create. We can and will do that again!

And DJ Trump is the first president since R Reagan to inspire people to do that.

Actually it is very easy to see why the Elitist Progressives/Communists detest Trump.

The run of the mill people who detest him are simply ignorant of the issues and stupid and typical Useful Idiots.

And in some areas of the country, there are no OB/GYN doctors at all because they've been driven out by lawsuits and/or the high cost of the malpractice insurance.

Any attempt to bring down medical costs, needs to include tort reform to slow down the high cost of judgments by juries.

Just for the record, ObamaCare is about medical insurance, not healthcare.

IMO technology, law suits, inflation & those that don’t pay are the prime reasons it costs more today than in 1952.

The technology in the labs, operating rooms, hospital rooms and where ever is just astounding compared to 1952. With the child birth example, today the technology not only tells what the sex is, but what birth defects or complications there might be.

I recently had stents put in, that never existed in 1952. People simply had their heart attacks and croaked. If not for modern medicine, I would be dead at least two times by now.

Modern medicine is expensive, but I believe we still have one of the best systems on earth. I am not on the complaining team.

Over the years, the government has removed all of those items you listed, out of the equation to calculate the Consumer Price Index. Eliminating these everyday items from the formula, makes is easy for the government to show little or no inflation.

Many wages, like public union contracts, Social Security and other government contracts, are pegged to the rate of inflation. The lower it is calculated, the less the government has to pay out.

The reality is that if they were to add all those mostly expenses of the consumer back into the formula, inflation would be much higher.

Funny how the government deceives us right before our eyes.

Yes, sad indeed how the government deceives. Those living on Social Security definitely need an increase. And families struggling paycheck to paycheck all across America...they will tell you the truth about the cost of living!

There are many reasons:

1. Lawsuits.

2. Govt regulations.

3. Hospital administration/support/compliance/legal staff.

4. People using lots of resources for little benefit.

5. People using lots of resources and not paying anything for it.

Crooked politicians make living as unaffordable as possible, so the maximum number of people are dependent on the government.

Why Is the Cost of Living so Unaffordable?
Answer: Bankers, Wall Street and politicians

My parents had 2 cars and paid $43,000 for custom built 6 bedroom house by a creek and a pond. Made out of real wood and not scraps glued together along with thin sheet rock walls. My dad was the only that worked until my mom got a job in her 40’s. My grandparents home was solidly built and had oak stairs and built-ins.

Today that house is about $450,000. Any new construction and it is not as well built. My parents moved to Scottsdale, AZ in the early 1980’s and bought a house for about $100,000 with 3 bedrooms and found that the homes they looked at were cheaply constructed. Floors not level and sheet rock that you could push against and flex.

Today you can only rent as the prices are too high to own a home without having owned a previous one.

Now about the price of new cars....

I've lived 8 years on SS and have received two small increases which together amount to the total cost of some fries at McDonalds.

Not exactly an increase to write home about.

That’s what is upsetting, stories such as yours...while we send millions (billions?) to Iran.

“Other government contracts” Snort, what rate of inflation? Hadn’t seen that happen here unless the 96 cents a month raise we just got was supposed to be it. Woohoo, party time! It sure beats the usual decrease.

Amen.

Medical technology has surpassed much and continues to advance very rapidly. I am certain there won’t be a problem except in the area of cost, but that covers the training that so many doctors and others get in order to do these marvelous things.

6. Public union and environmental graft and corruption. Building infrastructure should be getting cheaper as the technology gets better, but once all of the grifters get their cut it costs millions to build something that should cost thousands.

One of the differences is the growth of flunkies, administrators, transcribers, social workers, conformance specialists, etc. at hospitals.

That was not the case before Lyndon Johnson. I mark the change in America with the death of President Kennedy. Johnson got the ball rolling on the nanny state. Combined with the Vietnam war which helped fuel inflation, it was a perfect storm.

Before Johnson, you could go out with a 50 cent piece. At lunch you could buy a hamburger, coke, and still have money left over, enough for a candy bar, and maybe another coke, or magazine too.

Before Johnson, the majority of workers in a hospitals were doctors, nurses, orderlies—folks who worked directly with patients. Today they are in minority. It's like when a lion takes down a wildebeest. Pretty soon the vultures, crows, flies, maggots, worms, and hyenas show up to get their piece of the action.

Of course that also marks the time when they took the silver out of our money too. Another story (rant?) for another time.

One reason the cost of living is so high: too many useless people, the majority of which do not work, leaving the few workers supporting the majority. The lazy and dregs of society don’t produce, leaving a minority of the populace slaving away and having their income taxed to the hilt where the government (fed, state & local) steals the money and redistributes it. Look around, streets and stores crowded with non-workers, many on the dole. The only ones who have a good reason to complain about high costs are the real workers doing real work. Liberals are hell-bent on importing more useless dregs to drive costs even higher, by more hand-outs financed by higher taxes.

I have a great example of costs that just happened 2 years ago. Hubby had a 1 hour surgery in a surgery center. Out patient. We were there about 3 hours. The surgery center billed his insurance for $30 something thousand dollars.
I had a cosmetic procedure at a local hospital. Included everything except my doc’s fees. 5 hour surgery. I paid cash before the surgery because it wasn’t covered by insurance. $3200.
