I was a welder paying my way through college. That was almost 20 years ago. An entry level welder today makes the same wages I made. Wages ARE stagnant. Inflation is high. Taxes are high. Insurance is high. All due to government regulations, taxes, crony capitalists, and lawyers

“People who regard outrageous fines for traffic and parking offenses as OK because ‘you broke the law.’”

They put up traffic cams in our little town that would take your picture if you ran a red light or went too fast.

FrogDad was going 52 in a 45 on a main blvd with little or no traffic and received a ticket in the mail fining him over $300. For 7 miles over.

The townspeople didn’t like the cameras and resoundingly said GET RID OF THEM in the next election.

“It now takes two people to earn after tax what one once did, since half your income is going to taxes one way or another.”

I’ve been saying this for 20 years. People look at me like I’m crazy and say, “My taxes aren’t THAT high!”

It’s like this minimum wage thing. HOW can they not understand that EVERY thing they buy will go up when almost EVERYONE producing their goods gets a pay increase?!

I recently had stents put in, that never existed in 1952. People simply had their heart attacks and croaked. If not for modern medicine, I would be dead at least two times by now.

I too had the same good fortune but just because we got excellent care does not justify the robbery that is performed at the same time. Did you look at your itemized bill and see what you were billed and what was paid by your insurance? Likely your insurance only had to pay 20% of what was billed. Depending on what insurance or Medicare coverage you had you paid nothing.

In 1961 I had a cousin wind up in the hospital with peritonitis from a busted appendix, he spent 5 days in a private room with IV antibiotics after surgery, his bill for all that was $180.00. Probably would run $180,000.00 now.

One reason is law suits...

It is a lot more than that.

Of course, the standard of care has increased dramatically. In 1950 infant mortality in the US was 29 deaths/1000 births. In 2010 it was ~6.

But I think the real increase was caused by medical insurance. They have negotiated prices for their covered patients down, down and then down some more. Therefore prices for non-covered patients must go up.

"Under Reagan, it was popular to be successful, make a living, to grow, to create. We can and will do that again!"

According to the Huffpo chart above....... The flatline in wages began at the start of Reagan's presidency.

I have not gotten the bill yet, it was done Feb 08. I’m not looking forward to the bill, but it had to be done.

I have Medicare A & Blue Cross & Blue Shield. Supposedly the hospital bill is fully paid for & I pay 15% (BC&BS pay 85) of all else up to a max amount.

I have a good insurance plan, but pay dearly for it - $1500 per month.

Too much government. Too big government. Too much spending government. Government is a leech, a parasite, a blood sucker and full of greed.

You will have paid more in one year than the Hospital will collect. You don't have insurance, you have a prepaid health plan.

My bill for the stents was $130,000.00 Medicare/BlueCross paid $24,000.00 it was not my responsibility to pay the difference.

What you are paying for insurance would pay for a $300,000.00 home payment, think about that.
