HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A father was shot and killed in front of his wife and 10-year-old daughter after being carjacked because the killer didn't know how to use a manual transmission, police said.
It happened just before midnight near Richcrest Dr. and Greenbriar Park.
Pedro Aguilar, 47, was in his car on the street in front of an apartment complex when two men in their late teens to early 20's approached him to carjack him, police said.
They weren't able to get the car into drive because it was a manual transmission, not an automatic, and shot the man in anger, police said.
The victim died at the scene.
The two men fled the scene.
Looks like ol’ Dayquan is obviously on the wrong side of the bell curve.
I watch the car shows on tv. I can’t understand why every car they build has an automatic trans! Why?
It was reported earlier today that one is black and one is hispanic. So...one black man and one hispanic man both in their early twenties or late teens. That narrows it down to a couple of million people. I will be surprised if this case is ever solved.

I’m a female, and learned to drive on a manual transmission, and I even owned an old Duster which had a manual column shift.
While there might have been a time when stick shifts made sense (better mileage for example) today's automatics are just as good in every way.
Life's too short for stick shifts.How can I possibly text with a stick?

Another article I read says there were three, two got out and one stayed in the car.
The wife and 10 yr old got out of the car and was directing the husband as he was
parking street side in front of the apartment complex. Apparently you have to pay
to park in the complex.
I live in the mountains. Lots of sharp turns, ups and downs...lots of shifting. When I developed a callus on my left “cheek” from clutching, I traded for an automatic.

There were written instructions for using a manual transmission written on the dashboard. Unfortunately, they were in cursive.

Sounds like they have anger management issues. Also an inability to accept responsibility for their shortcomings.
Can you imagine being asked why you killed a guy and your answer being “because he bought a manual transmission car”.
Obama’s fair Dept. of Just-us would require all such cars to be properly labeled. Later they would sue all of the citizens who bought labels for their ‘non-standard’ cars - discrimination, you know! A Hate Crime!
