Yes...and i will probably be asked to do a few songs.
You all have wilt in your soil in your WI area?
I’m in north GA where wilt is prevalent.
Wilt kills everything from nanner trees to tobacco.
back potting at Zone 4 perrenials....i see more plants in a day than most of you will in a years time....nice cool spring along with a heavy snowpack that insulated them has proven to be the best recipe for the plants...they are beautiful and look great in the pots in comparison to last years opening...(we are strictly wholesale)... Maine is as usual getting what we get for weather and we deal with it...It’s going to be a beautiful year I feel...”global warming is a lie”....the arrogance to honestly think that “we” are going to affect this planet in a way to keep it from its own path is laughable.....I still have my TIME magazine from the 80’s saying we were entering the next “ICE AGE”....life is great don’t forget to look around.
What is “wilt”....never heard of it?
Fungus or bacteria which destroys the cellular structure that keeps leaves and foliage strong and ‘up’ and flowering stems erect and healthy. Lack of sun and propitious rain during youth of plant. Sometimes called ‘blight’.
Hoping the bad weather passes by without incident to anyone. I have no experience with those mites-thank goodness.
TIK, I don’t know - thought maybe you could answer the question above from Jamestown1630. Thanks.
I love sing alongs as long as I don’t have to get up in front of anyone or do a solo. LOL
LOL. I remember that time magazine, and tube bender posts it here from time to time. LOL
LOL... it can be daunting! But I do Classic Rock and play guitar so it is kind of fun.
Nice looking plant. Looks a lot like Hubby’s old Christmas Cactus. He kept forgetting to water it and after about 6 years it bit the dust.
Many years ago, I taught myself to play chords on the guitar. Used to sing mostly country songs at home sitting on the edge of the bed.
Every Friday night, while I was going to college, raising a family at the same time, I would just take the time off and sing. Sometimes my daughter would sit by me and sing along.
That’s what kept me sane back then.
Yes, I remember about the theme gardens!
I like Canna, as long as they’re fancy ones. I’ve always liked ‘Tiger Stripe’ and ‘Pretoria.’
HOWEVER - these days, if it’s a bulb or a corm and can’t stay IN the ground over Winter, I ain’t got time fo dat! I planted a few dozen Gladiolus today - knowing that I will NOT be digging them up come Fall.
By the time Fall rolls around up here, between the planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, preserving...I. Am. Done!
Music Therapy! :-)
I ain’t diggin’ up no corm, rhizome, bulb, none of that. If they can’t cope, they can be grub food.
My caladiums in the dirt are so ‘Go Away’ that I just bought all new ones. Miss Muffett, Gingerbread, and of course Frieda Hemple. My hostas are finally poking green shoots.
I have 100 long-blooming bearded Dutch Iris who normally stop traffic by this time but are just being healthy, humongous without a trace of blooming stalk. Fine.
Prayer request please? I’ve got back surgery scheduled next month. It’s wrecking spring gardening but I’m barely getting done what’s necessary. Thanks y’all.
Prayers going up WNeighbour . . . God be with you and guide your Surgeons hands.
" Wilt " generally refers to Fusarium Wilt, although there are others.
Fusarium Wilt generally attacks members of the solanacious family (ie.: peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant,... and occassionally some of the berry plants and 'brambles'.
The disease interferes with the flow of moisture and nutrients from the roots to the plant itself; fusarium wilt,if infected , will remain in the soil 3 - 5 years.
Infected plants should be burned / never composted !
BEST TREATMENT : Sterilize the soil with aeration, then soil is watered, then black plastic placed over the area, and left in place in full sun for 6 - 8 weeks.
High heat under the plastic will kill the bacteria.
If its in a pot or in potting soil, replace soil or place on a griddle on an outdoor grill to sterilize.
Better to lose 6 -8 weeks growing time this year, than to fight the disease, or lose crops each successive year. Just my 2 cents ...
