Single, childless and nearing 40, I saw one real option
CNN ^ | 04/25/2017 | Sarah Lenti

Fast forward to my 38th birthday. I was still single, and the world of dating had changed significantly in the last eight years. Tinder and Bumble, the dominant dating apps, offered countless options for single men and women, but made the experience of dating entirely impersonal.

Dating amounted to small talk with a stranger, who you had briefly interfaced with online because you each thought the other attractive. The small talk was a prelude to hooking up, and there were no expectations even of a text the next day.

It was brutal. And after trying my hand at it, I was no closer to finding the love of my life or starting a family. If I needed statistics to back me up, I had them. In 2014, marriage was on the decline, as was the fertility rate in the United States.

I had one real option left -- and that was to attempt to get pregnant alone.

Deliberately bringing a baby into the world without a father is child abuse and anti-nature, even if it is worshiped and celebrated by man-hating feminazis.

“So sad. I didn’t know that you knew my sister! NO sarc tag)”

I don’t know about whose sister she is, but she could be one of my crazy exes. I am old enough to have been rejected because I was not, in turn, Robert Redford, Tom Selleck, Brad Pitt, etc., or their father. The losers they usually ended up with weren’t either.

Don’t get me started. Enjoy “Idiocracy.”

In other words, a lot of single men are just creeps, right?

Just watching most of the families in my scout unit disintegrating. Also watching most of my kids friends families disintegrating.

Once. Married once.

Never again. You can only love a person that loves themselves first. Period.

Women seem incapable of it, and yet they want to lead. In general.

They have a couple of generations now, and I’ve been waiting to see where they want to go. There are exceptions (Thatcher the Great, Golda Meir, Barbara Jordan).

They measure their self worth by measuring their relative ability to control men. Full stop. They dress for each other, not for men. On the basis of this, many have decided they can’t compete, and now they’ve decided to redefine what gender is.

Lesbian marriage is just marriage, right? Kids are resilient and don’t need a male influence, because, really, isn’t that something we should be quietly eradicating anyway? (We could start with the colleges, get white male privilege classified as a soft crime against humanity).

If you look at it objectively, only women can fix this, and it starts with them LIKING THEMSELVES. Their self loathing has been leaking into society for decades, and its killing off the American Experiment.

The first mistake women made was looking at abortion as a right. The ability to make new human beings makes women more powerful than men, second only to God. Somehow, they’ve decided its a massive liability.

How did that happen? It happened because pregnancy compromises their ability to control men, and their self-esteem is primarily gauged by their ability to control men.

Women control the uterus, which means they control the future of the entire planet. They used to run their families, and now the family is just a huge drag (except the cute baby phase).

Not bitter, except when I see society rapidly circling the drain in a way that is likely unrecoverable.

As for men, we used to shame them in to doing what they ought to do. They were built like beasts of burden, and used to act like beasts of burden - not complain - do their jobs and raise their families.

Teddy Roosevelt was shot, delivered a 90 minute speech, and then accepted medical attention.

Because that’s what men used to do.

A man who has affairs isn’t a man. Period. He’s a betrayer of children. An abandoner of children.

Women raise men, now more than ever, but somehow this is all men’s fault.

I just don’t follow the logic.

Fan: “How do you write women so well?”

Author(male): “I think of a man, then I remove accountability and reason.”

I have known a few men who saved themselves for marriage only to turn out they played for the other team. Two were/are pastors. It has to be a worry for a woman.

It’s not surprising that so many women are turning to married men. No attachment and they are good about “wooing” you. She really wanted a rich man with a wife in a nursing home but that didn’t work out.

My cousin’s daughter is this woman...without the baby....yet. After spending time with her I figured out why she’s still single. Selfish as all get out and it’s all about what she wants. She is a nice, Christian gal and pretty humble with the family but sheesh when you sit down and talk to her about getting married it’s all....well I couldn’t do this, and I want to do that. Can’t have anyone having any input into my life. I just shook my head. I told her it’s not a secret what causes babies and to find someone to get her pregnant, walk away, and never tell them. You should’ve heard her mother gasp. lol But to me it fit right in with who she is.

Single women often sleep with men on the first date (whether they want to or not) because they think it will hold the man. It doesn’t but they keep trying. Sad.

>>>If he has a decent income, and stays reasonably fit, he can have his pick of women who are becoming increasingly desperate to nail down a guy before the woman reaches her expiration date.<<<

Based on what you said, the woman in this article has almost no hope. As the guys around her age are too busy enjoying one woman after another to settle down. But are you also saying it comes at the price of deceiving the women into thinking he might marry her?

Nature intended women to have children up until menopause or they wouldn’t be able to.

Exactly, except “Nature” should be replaced with God. With Him all things are possible.

Do you guys think her choice was okay?

I don't judge her. She had the natural female biological urge to be a mother, and that is good.

We are only getting a few sparse details of her life though. Clearly, she was very career focused - and self-centered. Very urban phenomenon these days for intelligent women. In these places, they are also swimming in a social pool with men who are equally self-centered and even more so demand self-fulfillment. The conflict is - you can not have everything. Choices and sacrifices must be made.
