I started it finally... I am having difficulty sustaining interest (and I love the genre).
I consider him imaginative conceptually, but pedestrian literarily (given his vaunted status).
It particularly rankles me that he is called the American Tolkien.
Martin may be a legitimate scholar, but that does not make him a philologist and storyteller to equal John Ronald Reuel.
You are correct. Thank you.
So, what would you like me to read of yours, and how is it available?
I lost interest in the HBO series after reading the books, if that tells you anything.
I have his graphic novel with Tori Amos on the cover. She is also brilliant and weird, which is why they are pals (she cites him in one of her lyrics).
Amos was accepted to the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University at the age of 5 - the youngest ever.
I will stick it out for now. I know from observation that many people give up on a long fantastic fiction series before it can really take hold of one.
Does he need to finish it? The ending is pretty obvious. You have a queen with fire breathing dragons and an army of zombies that can only be killed by fire. I think we all already know how it ends.
Is hillary in to fat, bearded ladies?
I think of him as the anti-Tolkien. I have enjoyed the series and will read the next one if it ever comes out, but it will be more out of a sense of duty instead of enjoyment. Especially if the TV show gets so far ahead that the book is spoiled (I don't watch the show but my daughter keeps me up to speed). Probably wait till I can get it used on Amazon.
