Dr. Robert Jeffress Demands Senator Bernie Sanders Apologize or Resign for Applying an Unconstitutional Religious Test to a Trump Nominee, Effectively Declaring that Tens of Millions of Evangelicals are Unfit for Public Office

DALLAS — Dr. Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, releases the following statement in response to Senator Bernie Sanders’ application of an unconstitutional religious test to Russell Vought, President Trump’s nominee for deputy White House budget director:

“Senator Bernie Sanders, in declaring his intention to vote against Russell Vought because of his Evangelical Christian faith, has not only launched a direct attack against the Constitution by applying a religious test, he has also attacked tens of millions of Evangelicals, who embrace the same historical Christian beliefs as Vought.

Basically Sanders said Christians should be banned from public office - per his litmus test. Sanders should resign and/or be censured.

It was a religious test. Anyone believing in salvation in Jesus alone is unacceptable according to Bernie.

That covers a huge portion of Christianity and is, of course,the correct reading of the Bible.

As an Evangelical myself, saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, I applaud the defense of Christians.

However, is there more to Sanders' statement opposing this nominee than this?

"I would simply say, Mr. Chairman, that this nominee is really not someone who is what this country is supposed to be about. I will vote no."

If not, then there is little to no evidence Sanders opposes this nominee based on his Christianity.
