Ann Coulter calls Delta 'worst airline in America' after seating debacle
washington examiner ^ | July 15, 2017

Conservative author Ann Coulter fired a fury of tweets on Saturday evening condemning Delta Airlines after she claims she was forced to move from her pre-booked seat. Coulter's tweet storm included criticizing the airline's protocol, WiFi, and even shaming another customer by posting a photo of the passenger taking the author's seat.

I fly Philippine Airlines several times a year. I seem to get better service from them.

Looks like the airline might have moved Ann so that a family could be seated together.

I guess Ann does not appreciate family values.

A few years ago, my wife and I were flying to SC form Taiwan via San Francisco and Atlanta. We arrived in San Francisco 5 hours before the flight. Checked in downstairs and got our boarding passes. When it came time to board, they said our tickets were invalid. They checked on it and said because of weather, they rerouted us through JFK in NY instead of Atlanta and that flight left 20 minutes ago. We were sitting at the gate the whole time. The gate for the JFK flight was right across from our gate. Not once did they make an announcement at that gate for “passengers so and so to check-in, this is the last call”. We were able to squeeze onto the original flight. They put us in the seats up front with no leg room. When we boarded, there was no room in the overheads for my carry-on. I ended up putting in on the floor in front of me and spent the whole flight with my knees almost up to my chin. Meanwhile, I look across the aisle and the bulkhead seats - with plenty of leg room - are occupied by employees flying back to Atlanta. So much for the paying customer.

I thought Ann flew around in her own jet. No wait, that’s Rush. Also, surprisingly I didnt see any anti Trump tweets among her flurry of tweets.

I have flown Singapore multiple times between the US and Asia ( KrisFlyer member). It’s a top notch airline. Cathay is nice too. Makes me hate flying US airlines.

Family values?

Seriously, the “child” was not 5—she was long past 13 with her professional manicure and cell phone. I have sat on plenty of flights not next to my family members. Oh and I flew by myself when I was a young child and one of my children flew by themselves on occasion when circumstances necessitated...but this young lady was not a child, and to make a comment “Ann does not appreciate Family Values” is just not fair or accurate.

We don’t know all the circumstances, but from Ann’s tweets and reaction, I am guessing they moved Ann to a regular seat...I would be upset if I was on a long flight and had paid the extra fees for a seat with legroom and this had happened.

If customer satisfaction was the mission, the airline should have moved her to a comparable seat, or better yet, an upgrade...

I know that some airlines have “Economy Plus” seats (or some similar title) which have an inch or two more leg room for a slightly higher price. If (and I say “if”) this is what was the case, then not only does Ann have a legitimate complaint, but perhaps a legal one, too.

However, regardless, how stupid is it for an airline to pick on a nationally known editorial writer and author? What’s next? (”I know that you had the seat with more legroom, President Carter, and I know that you have been sick, but we are going to put you back in one of the more cramped seats. No, you don’t have any choice.”)

Why offer pre-booked, specific seats if they won’t be honored? Maybe there is more to the story, but if what Coulter says is true then Delta is in the wrong here. She paid for something that was the taken away for no apparent good reason.

Flew Southwest for the 1st time last week. Their no baggage fee on 2 bags saved our group $600. They allowed each person a 3rd free bag since we were on a humanitarian mission trip, another $750.

Southwest from here on out.

Did Ann get from point A to point B?

Is there any reason why Ann should be given special treatment by the airline?

Whether she can afford it or not, is not relevant.

She paid for extra leg room—picked her seat accordingly and then the airline reassigned it...

I have a sneaking suspicion that the “family” paid a higher fare...perhaps a last minute fare?

Be a decent person.

I have moved seats in order to let a family sit together.

I pay the airline to get me from point A to point B and hope to person next to me is not chatty.

That’s all I expect.

Yes she got from point A to point B. That is not the point.
She PAID EXTRA FARE for a certain seat—an assigned seat with extra leg room...She did not get that seat. They did not upgrade her nor did they compensate her.

Special Treatment??? Nothing of the sort...ANYONE would be upset if they were moved...As I just posted to you, it would seem that she was downgraded to a regular seat...And for some who have long legs, knee issues, or have had recent knee surgery it could make getting from point A to B quite unpleasant if not unhealthy.

Do you always side with the airlines or do you just not like Ann Coulter?

occupied by employees flying back to Atlanta.

It is not just employees who get choice seats, it's their family members and friends.

You read about the guy who tried to open the door to the plane going to China? He was a non-rev passenger who was upgraded to first class because his mother was a flight attendant.

If you are on stand-by or are hoping to get upgraded you have little chance if a relative or friend of the gate attendant is there. Yes, there are rules but they are not followed.

Special treatment? What are you talking about? Do you consider getting the seat you preselected and paid for to be special treatment? Getting what you paid for is special treatment?

If all that matters is getting from A to B, then why doesn’t the airline just move people, for whatever reason, out of first class seats and give them to people who paid coach fare?

Unless you’re arguing that the other woman also preselected and purchased the same seat, and Delta just screwed up and had to choose which booking to honor, then your argument makes no sense.

If the facts are as Coulter presents them then she should have gotten the seat she paid for.

I didn’t know until now — with that picture of the family — how much lack of class Ann has. The trouble is that she’s totally unaware of it.
